Chapter 6 ~Venomous Greetings

Damon’s P.O.V.

I sighed, watching KC disappear up the stairs, my wolf thrashing angrily. I had my hands on her and she slipped away, just like that. So close. My fangs shrunk and my wolf skulked into the depths of my mind, pouting. How was it possible that I was cursed with such a stubborn yet insanely attractive mate? I turned to follow her, my nerves on edge about the fact that she was almost alone with a group of mysterious rogues. A couple Scouts were reassuring, but it still didn’t ease my concerns.

“The dashing Alpha Damon Falon, I presume?” I stopped and turned to face a mangled female who was staring at me with dark brown eyes. I stared quizzically at her, recognizing a moment later that she was part of the rogue group that KC decided to house.

“Shouldn’t you be on your way to the third floor?” I said, lowering my voice and throwing her an intimidating glare. As an Alpha wolf, it was my responsibility to strike fear into intruders, whether or not they’ve been welcomed in by an insane mate or not. However, her hands were resting on her hips and her pink lips were pursed, but her eyes were hard, looking me up and down. I didn’t like that.

“Yeah, but I wanted to get to know you first. I’ve heard a lot about you, Alpha,” she said, walking to the side. I followed her with my eyes; my wolf was back at the surface, but not because he was turned on.

“Well, now you know me so go,” I said, watching her watching me as she slowly circled me, her gaze still washing over me coolly.

“You’re not even curious about what I’ve heard?” she teased, her dark eyes glinting mysteriously. My jaw tightened and I narrowed my eyes at her.

“No, I’m not.” I bit, feeling my eyes grow hot. They were glowing amber by now.

“Weak, spineless, not to mention incompetent,” she spat, venom lacing every syllable. The soft undertone she had been using was gone, exchanged with menace. I snarled at her, my fangs bared and my wolf angered. Only KC was allowed to call me incompetent and get away with it.

“I’m weak? Your pack was massacred by a dead man. As a beta, at least that’s what’ve I heard, it’s your duty to protect your pack,” I returned, noticing her eyes flicker dangerously. Her lips which were pressed into a thin line faltered into a frown and she stopped to turn to me. In one stride, she stood in front of me, her eyes leveled with my chin but glaring up at me.

“Dead man my ass,” she hissed. “Why are you lying to everyone, Alpha Falon? You think by lying to KC you’re going to make everything disappear?” She made a “poof” gesture with her hands.
