The three friends all stared at their respective portals, oblivious to the shaking, crumbling chamber around them.
"Well... I guess this is goodbye." Grayson said, breaking the silence.
"Yeah..." Mia replied, fingering the medallion on her necklace.Silence.
Suddenly, Grayson ran across the room and hugged the Mage and the Archaeologist tightly.
Even though his face was hidden, it was obvious tears were spilling down the ex-commander's face, splattering against the hard stone floor, only to evaporate by the heat of the lava.
Drake and Mia hugged back, not needing to say any words, just knowing that everything that needed to be said was already taken care of, already out of the way, the last moments of their time together the only thing that mattered.
It seemed like an eternity until Mia finally tapped Grayson on the back, signalling to let go. The three friends broke apart, and glanced at one another with watery eyes.
"We should hurry up." Mia said gently tears forming in her giant green eyes.
"Who knew it would come to this." Grayson whispered.
"Yeah." Drake murmured, the teardrops on his ender side sizzling slightly.
"I mean, look at how far we've come, Drake." Gamecrown smiled. "To think the first time we ever met was when I almost shot you back at the arctic base."
"Yeah." Drake laughed. "It's hard to believe all the adventures we've had together."
"Um..." Mia piped up. "May I say something?"
"Go ahead!" Drake exclaimed.
"Well..." She fumbled around with her thumbs. "I just wanted to say that... I know I haven't been around from the beginning, and I know I could never replace Armen, I just wanted to say that..." She took a deep breath. "That it's been an honour to fight beside you both. I'm just... going to miss you two so much!" She choked a little at the last part.
"Oh, Mia!" Drake's voice shook. "Us too!"
They all hugged quickly again, only being pulled apart by another violent shake.
"We should get going." Grayson remarked, glancing at the stoney ceiling.
"Drake." Mia called over the rumbling of the chamber.
"Yeah?" Drake shouted back.
"Take this chalice!" Mia threw it over to him. "It's worth a lot. You can sell it at the Empire's museum!"
Drake caught the chalice in midair, and glanced at it.
"But Mia!" He exclaimed. "This is the chalice you worked so hard to get back!"
"Actually, it was you two that got it for me." Mia smiled. "But.. you'll need it more than me."
"Mia..." Drake choked. "Thank you."
"Hey, if Mia's going to give you something, I might as well." Grayson joked. "Here." He handed Drake a marque. "And... also, here." He said more gently, handing over a shimmering amulet, with colours of purple, green, blue and pink mixed together, shimmering each in a sparkling glimmering hue.
"I knew you loved all of my magical artifacts." Grayson murmured, smiling sadly. "And when I was lighting the place on fire... I thought it suited you very well. Just.. keep it with you, okay?"
Drake felt tears creep down his face. "Thank you both." He murmured, placing the chalice in his bag, and the amulet around his neck. "And to think... I don't have much to give you..."
He then thought. And had an idea.
He smiled. "Wait... maybe I do!"
He concentrated, and murmured a few spells under his breath.
Two bits of precious rock broke off of the wall a bit back, and flew towards Drake. He then closed his eyes, and shaped the rough stones into something new.
The two gems then dropped in Grayson and Mia's hands, Grayson's a shiny jade sprinkled with obsidian, Mia's a smooth moonstone.
Each one had an intricate symbol on it, Grayson's a small egg, Mia's a sparkling chalice.
"Oh Drake..." Mia whispered. "It's beautiful." She wiped her tears away, and placed it in her satchel.
"Yeah man, this is... incredible." Grayson murmured, smiling up at Drake.
"Well, I figure I won't need to use my magic as much now that He is gone."
"For now." Grayson muttered.
"Hey, don't think like that." Mia scolded.
"I know." Grayson sighed. The chamber shook even more, cracks spreading throughout the floor. "Okay, we really need to get going now."
"Okay." Mia sighed.
"Hey Mia." Grayson smiled. "Here." He took off his coat, and gave it to her. "You might need it."
"Thanks Grayson." Mia smiled. "Here, you can have this."
She handed over her necklace.
"Okay, let's go." Drake said. "I bless you both with safe travels. Hopefully we shall meet again."
They both nod.
"Alright..." Drake took a deep breath, and turned around towards his own portal, a shimmering turquoise, and entered, a blinding light wiping out everything in his consciousness, as he was taken away to some other place...
