Grayson snuck out at dawn, leaving Armen behind, and made his way over to Drake's house.
He had made sure to keep the emerald in hand as he entered the force field, and luckily, Mia's theory was right. He passed right through.
He and Drake spent the morning talking, but Drake looked a little off.
"Drake, are you okay?" Grayson inquired, snapping Drake back to attention. He had been staring at his potions cupboard.
"Hunh? Oh yeah, I'm fine." Drake replied, but zoned out pretty much right afterwards.
"Drake. Earth to Drake!" Grayson snapped his fingers right in front of Drake's face
"Hunh?" Drake jumped.
"Drake , do you want me to leave?" Grayson sighed. "I don't think we're getting anywhere with this conversation."
"No! It's fine! I'm sorry." Drake waved his hands in front of his face. "I'm sorry Grayson. I just had a restless night, that's all."
"Okay..." Grayson muttered. "Then, can you answer what I've been trying to ask you this past half hour?"
"Yeah, ask away." Drake shrugged.
"We didn't really discuss what that regeneration potion you made was supposed to do to you." Grayson leaned closer. "What would it have done? If your calculations were correct, I mean."
"Well..... uh..." Drake muttered, glancing away. "It would have..."
"Drake? Are you okay? Are you gonna be sick again?" Grayson asked, leaning even closer.
"No, I'm fine!" Drake used the same words he had used many times before.
"Ugh, I do not want to have this same conversation again...." Grayson groaned. "Please just tell me if anything's wrong."
"Well.... you see..." Drake deftly glanced over at something across the room.
Grayson followed his gaze.... to the drained bottle on the table.
"Drake... what was in that bottle?"
"Nothing!"
"Don't lie to me Drake you're a terrible liar, and you've done this already on countless occasions."
"I didn't do anything wrong!"
"I doubt that, Drake, or you would have told me already!"
"Even if I was up to something, I wouldn't tell you!"
"Why not?! Why not Drake? Give me one good reason!"
"There are no reasons! Nothing's going on!"
"Drake...." Then Grayson thought for a minute.
"Drake..." He asked slowly. "Did you make another potion?"
"What? No! As I told you, it takes years to concoct!"
"What was in the bottle Drake?!"
"Nothing of your concern!"
"What do you mean nothing of my concern?! I'm your friend Drake! I thought after ten years you might be glad to talk to me, but apparently not! You could be doing something incredibly harmful! You could get hurt, and you know? When something does happen, don't come whining to me."
And with that, Grayson left the cave in a huff.
Drake stared as his friend left, and then stared over at the bottle.
Am I doing the right thing? He sighed. He'd never forgive me if I told him....
He then stood up.
I need to go and apologize. He thought.
Grayson stormed through the woods, his entire being a mass of anger and frustration.
What is wrong with him?! Why the heck is he so cold all of the sudden? What changed in the last ten years?!
And then he stopped, and took a deep breath.
Everything. He thought sadly, as he reached the clearing his house was in.
He reached for the doorknob, when a piece of paper slid from it.
He picked it up and read.
Dear Grayson,
I'm sorry to say, your friend could not say goodbye.
We had to leave early due to the storm coming in a few days.
We hope to be able to send you more information soon.
Thank you for understanding.
Signed, Mia's Sister, Ranée
Grayson stared at the note, rubbing his eyes a few times, just to glance back down at the paper, and realize it was totally real.
He stood there, stunned for a few moments, and heard as Drake walked into the clearing.
"Hey, uh, Grayson?" Drake tapped his shoulder. "I just wanted to say that I'm sorry for ear-"
And that's when Grayson snapped.
"UGH!!!! YOU IDIOT!!!" He screamed. "YOU WRETCHED, LYING, PUTRID SON OF A BLAZE!!!!!!"
Drake stumbled back, scared by how fast Grayson's mood changed.
"DON'T LOOK AT ME THAT WAY!!!!" Grayson screamed. "SHE'S GONE, DRAKE!!! SHE'S GONE, AND SHE'S NOT COMING BACK!!!!!!! NOT NOW, NOT EVER!!! WHAT DO YOU HAVE TO SAY ABOUT THAT??!!!! HERE, DO YOU NEED SOME PROOF?! JUST LIKE YOU ALWAYS SEEM TO DO THESE DAYS! I'M SICK OF IT!!!"
He threw the crumpled piece of paper at Drake's feet, before promptly stomping on it, squishing Drake's foot in the process.
"SHE'S GONE DRAKE! SHE'S GONE!" He sobbed, running into the house, and slamming the door, leaving Drake stunned outside, to read the letter.
Grayson threw himself down onto his bed, cuddling with his pillow, crying into it's comforting soft surface.
He heard a knock at the door, and a squeak as it opened.
He heard footsteps coming in.
"Do you want to talk about anything?" Drake asked quietly.
Grayson didn't even look at him, but instead gave him the complete cold shoulder.
How could he be so calm in a time like this?! She didn't even get to say goodbye!
He heard a sigh, and footsteps back towards the door.
"I just wanted to say I 'm sorry about earlier, and if you want to talk about that, and about Mia, I'll be back at 9:00 next morning. Come to the door if you want to."
And Drake left.
Grayson rolled back around towards the window, just in time to see Drake teleport away.
He shuddered, and hid underneath the covers.
And the pitter patter of tiny footsteps came closer.
Soon, Armen the dragon nosed his way through the door, and settled down next to his owner.
"Oh Armen, what will we do now?" Grayson sighed, cuddling up close to the dragon.
And falling asleep.
Welp..... I'm done that one.... That was sad..... Boo hoo..... No, but really, that was probably the worst heart break I've had so far..... :( Why do I torment myself writing this stuff?! I need to just settle down, cuddle on the couch with my creeper plushie and eat some Snickers. Thanks for reading! *sniff* ~Dream
