Chapter 6: Running in Circles
JADE'S P.O.V:
"Hurry up!" Gage yelled at us as we all dashed through the forest.
"Yeah we know!" Saunter replied, breathing heavily.
One of my hand's were clutched in Gage's and the other was holding my messenger's bag that was slung across my shoulder.
My dark hair bounced behind me and I watched as Ellie ran somewhat solo with Graham tagging along next to her. Gage was somewhat in front of me, leading the way, and I didn't mind it.
I turned my head back as my eyes layed on a pair of murky hazel eyes. Elijah.
I shot him a smile and he returned it. But I could sense the envy in his eyes. I looked forward to see that we were still far from the school and I prayed we wouldn't be late.
I reached a hand back and he took it without any reluctance. And that made me happy.
He smiled and I just turned my head to face the trees high above.
I couldn't help but admire the beauty of it all. The broad trees that held the sunlight captive.
My attention was shot to the form of a squirrel that scurried away from us as we were running very loudly.
And soon enough we had reached the end of the woods and were at the fence of the school.
"Why'd we have to take this way anyways?" Lacey asked.
"Do you really want us to explain that in such a public place? Graham snapped at her.
"Woah, calm down little boy," Saunter said to him protecting Lacey by stepping in front of her.
"Hey, hey!" Gage said, getting in between them, "the last thing we need is a fight between you guys."
"That's for sure," I said, mumbling to myself.
"Come on! we can't be late!" Ellie whined and Graham led the way over the chain-link fence. Ellie followed him and then Saunter and Lacey helped each other up and over.
I watched as Gage and Elijah both ran in front of me to help me.
"It's cool, I don't need assistance," I said with a playful smirk.
I swiftly swung myself up and over the fence but unfortunately I managed to snag my leg on the top of the fence.
I noticed I was bleeding and quickly turned away from Gage and Elijah as they both climbed over the fence.
I held my leg as it began to sting a bit and blood trailed down to my shoes.
The rest of the group turned towards me, gaping at my wound. I spun around to see Gage and Elijah with worried expressions on their face.
Lacey and Saunter began to whisper to each other and I couldn't help but once again feel out-casted.
"Are you.. bleeding?" Ellie asked bluntly.
"I uhh.." I didn't know what I could say to satisfy them.
"Nightmares aren't supposed to bleed," Graham said with an accusing look on his face.
I looked down as the blood was drying a crimson red against my tan skin. I lifted my hand and the wound was gone and healed.
I looked up at them as we all had matching expressions. Shock and curiosity.
"Come on then, before the bell rings!" Elijah said bustling us through the front doors just as the bell rung.
The heavy doors clicked shut behind us and an eerie sensation haunted the school hallway.
As if it couldn't get anymore cliché, my hand shot up to cover my ears as a piercing sensation flooded my head.
I cried out in agony and the lights above began to flicker violently. "Stop!" Ellie whined at a figure yards in front of us.
He stood tall and sent out an evil aura that I sensed.
He walked towards us slowly with a foolish grin on his face. He stopped once he was barely a few feet in front of me. A horrifying pain shot through my head and sent me on my knees clutching my head.
"Stop!" Elijah yelled, "you're hurting her!"
My breathing became shallow as shouts and cries flooded my mind from every direction.
The man stood in front of me laughing maniacally. His demonic eyes were black under the flickering lights but something else caught my eye.
On his right hand he wore a very unique ring. It was a thick black band that had a bat wrapped around it with it's wings expanded.
I could have sworn I saw it's wings flutter and it spin around the black band a few times.
But soon I lost my focus on the world, my head hitting the cold hard school tiles and my eyesight fading into a dreamless abyss.
