~11~

Whenever someone finds something that they have searched for and missed for days on end, they would be happy with tears streaming down their face, smiles plastered on their faces and not being able to stop.

I was the completely opposite.

I couldn't move. I just stood there and looked a Ruby who had a similar expression. My heart had stopped and so did the air in my lungs. My lips were getting dry as my mouth hung open and pure shock spread throughout my body. My toes felt numb. That made me worry. Maybe I had passed out because of my senseless toes.

"Piper, we need to go before she is taken" Ruby said, grabbing my hand. I managed a nod as we ran out of my room, down stairs and through corridors so the quad where it was being held. Coming through the archway out of the school, Carlos, Reed, Jessie, Jay and Hunter all stood near the stairs towards the secluded pavilion. That must've been where she was. I walked up closer and I felt flushed.

My mother was right there and I would see her after nine years. I wasn't sure what would happen when I see her. Would she be angry at me? Would she hug me and cry as I stood with shock glued on my face? What if she thought I wasn't her daughter? What if?

Carlos sensed me and reached his hand out to me, urging me to take it. I carefully placed my palm in his as his protectiveness through his touch immediately enveloped its way around my heart. He pulled me closer and hugged me.

"No matter what, we'll always be here" he said. Pulling back, more arms wrapped around my torso and my shoulders. Jessie and Ruby hugged me as well, causing me return the hug. After them was a good old side hug from Reed and Hunter and a soft slap on the back from Jay. It felt amazing having so many friends helping me and supporting me. The spark inside my heart just grew and grew with every smile that I received. I couldn't believe that this was all that I was missing on the Island – real friends.

I stood up taller and squeezed Carlos' hand that was entwined with mine and set forwards towards the stairs. We ascended down the stairs past tall walls of hedges with my heart beating so loud, that I wouldn't be surprised if he heard it.

The tall white pavilion stood in front of us with a woman standing with her back to us. I stopped. She seemed so familiar but something was different. Her dark brown hair was wrapped into a difficult hairstyle, she wore a short floral red dress with feathers along the hem and a black belt around her waist with strappy tan hells. Her posture was straight and she didn't turn around.

I cleared my throat, triggering her to spin around. Her face was different but a familiarity hit me in the heart. Her olive skin matched mine along with her light blue eyes that glowed compared to her clear complexion. She looked older than the last time I saw my mother but I still felt the motherly vibe that I used to get whenever she was around me. Her dress plummeted down near her chest and she had small top-hats with ears as earrings and black bracelets with diamonds driven into it. A beautiful red lipstick had glided over her lips to compliment her dress – which it did.

We stared at it each other for which felt like a million years but it was instead for only a moment. She folded her hands in front of her and eyed my face. I was so sure that she could hear my heartbeat as it sounded like a stampede.

"Piper?" she asked.

I nodded my head but refused to talk or walk. I just stood there, speechless.

She slowly walked up closer as Carlos took a few steps back, giving us plenty of room to sort some things out.

My eyes couldn't leave her face and I knew hers couldn't leave mine. I had so many questions that I was too scared for the answers. I had missed her so much and cried night after night for her to come back, but she never did. I was so confused and lost without her.
