The words were right in front of me. The names of the people in her household and her job. I felt like the words in italics were winding their way around my throat and stopping me from meeting reality. It hurt me and confused me. Why didn't Ben tell me? Did he even know? And why on earth was she with the royal family out of all people? We thought she was in an asylum, dungeons or even somewhere not on the face of the earth.

I quickly stood, stormed past Ruby towards my wardrobe. I picked out a light blue sundress and some flip-flops and quickly slipped out of my clothes from the day before and into the dress. I stormed out of my room and made my way to where he usually sat for break. I speed walked through hallways with a glare that could kill anyone. Everyone moved out of my way and anger flared in my system. I was on a roll and ready to fire.

Coming to the bench where he sat with Mal, Evie and Doug, the son of dopey. I went up next to Ben who was telling the others a joke, resulting in them all laughing and Mal practically hanging off his arms.

Clearing my throat, I crossed my arms and glared at Ben. They all stopped laughing and looked at me with humour dancing in their eyes.

"Oh hey, Piper! What's up?" Ben asked with a small grin on his face. But it slightly fell.

"Piper, what's wrong with your eyes?" Mal said, eyeing me with suspicion.

Ignoring her and her observation, I kept looking at Ben. "I need a word," I said, looking at the others. "Now? Private? No eavesdroppers?" I growled. He took the hint and excused himself before following me away from anyone who could hear our discussion.

Ben's face got serious and his eyes searched my face. "What's wrong? I have a bad gut feeling" he said.

I held up my hand and stopped him talking. His mouth shut and I crossed my arms. "Why the hell didn't you tell me my mother lived with you?" I asked.

He frowned and opened his mouth to talk but instantly shut it. "What do you mean? I don't know your mother and I'm pretty sure I would know if she lived under the same roof as me."

"Does the name Marcy Facilier found familiar? Also known as just Lucinda to you, the good cousin of your mother?"

Recognition flickered in his eyes like a flame but so did guilt. He searched my face again before sighing. "Lucinda, she was supposedly my aunt and ended up being something like a nanny" he said.

"She was taken on my seventh birthday and I had never seen her again until parent's day."

"Wait, parent's day? She was there and you met her?" he said surprised.

I cocked my head to the side and frowned. "You didn't know? And your parents didn't even say anything that someone you live with came as well?" none of this made sense. His parents were hiding something from their only son and were also the ones who took a mother from her struggling family and hid her from the world?

I tapped my finger on my chin, thinking of something to do. Suddenly, a thought popped into my head. "I need to see your parents."

Ben let out a loud belly laugh and sighed. He saw my serious face and paused. "You're serious aren't you?"

"Does it look like I'm joking?" I bit.

He held up his hands in defence and grinned. "OK, OK. So how will we do that?" he asked.

"It's simple," I said, just you wait and see."

Standing in front of the huge castle doors had me slightly shaking in my shoes. Ben was at my side with his hand on the small of my back. That goodness it was all just an act.
