x. late drinking

maybellene woke up late. her stupid alarm went off at 1 in the morning instead of 12 which made her mumble curse words to herself and quickly change into her work clothes. her work attire was an all black dress code and to her dismay, she forgot to wash. she eventually pulled on a black dress that had been hiding at the back of her closet(because it was too loose in all the wrong places) and high knee socks to shield her bare legs from the cold. she pulled on her evergreen coat and looked at herself in the mirror. her hair was incredibly knotted and the bags under her eyes were very noticeable. she groaned as she tried to fix her appearance before running out  of her door, forgetting if she even locked it. all she was thinking about was getting to work on time and whether she was still going to see louis. she hoped she would still manage louis. she prayed.

but her goals weren't achieved. the subway had already passed and louis was nowhere in sight. "dammit!", she yelled to herself, sighing in defeat and sitting down on the graphite covered bench. she wasn't mad that she missed the subway; she was mad because she didn't see louis. the sight of louis always brightened her day. she called matt, letting him know her situation. he was laughing the whole time although maybellene kept telling him to shut it. the phone call ended when the next subway arrived.

she sat all the way in the back. no one else was on;  just her. her frown grew and grew as she got closer to her stop. she was wondering what louis was doing. she was wondering if he noticed her disappearance. or even if he acknowledged her at all. she wondered where he was going this time and if he had already gotten there. she wondered if he had a good day or did it not turn out well. she wondered what he was wearing and if he looked good. she had all these thoughts about louis that it just dragged her mood lower than before. the subway slowed down as she stood up and went towards the door. they slid open as she stepped out and hung her head low. she was sad. and it was all her fault for not waking up on time.

louis sat down on the stool as he drank his shot of tequila. the bar was quiet and dull, much like his own self right now. he didn't see her at the station which was unusual. he thought that he was probably at the wrong station but he wasn't. he thought that he came too late or too early but he didn't; it was 2 in the morning. he didn't want to get on without seeing her but he thought that she just wasn't feeling it today. so he boarded the subway and somehow ended up at a bar, drinking away his feelings. "another round mate?", asked the bartender, who looked the same age as louis. he nodded, not caring if he would wake up with a hangover tomorrow. he just wanted to wash away his sadness and the alcohol was doing just the trick.

"rough night?", the bartender asked him, cleaning glasses and setting them down in front of louis. "you can say that.", he responded, finishing his glass as the bartender handed him a new one but filled. "but what can i say? you're a bartender, now you must have girls waiting in line to get a piece.", louis slurred, the alcohol was starting to kick in. he laughed. "nah mate, you've got it all wrong. they're never into the bartender but only with what the bartender can provide them which in this case is alcoholic beverages that make you forget about all the bad times.", he answered, grabbing the glasses and stacking them up. "plus, i've only got one girl on my mind."

"well damn. spill mate, let me know about this woman you're in love with.", louis nudged. "i'm not in love with her, but i do admire her i'll tell you that much. she's stunning. she's funny and kind. her personality is so pure it's incredible that she even exsists. she's just.. wow.", he went on. louis smiled,"well mate, go and get her. what's stopping you?". the bartender sighed, "she's got her eyes set on another lad. and get this? she doesn't even know who he is." louis nodded in understanding. "she's been crushing on him for almost 4 months and she has never spoken to him.", he complained.

"that's rough man. sorry.", louis said, looking at the clock on the wall. it was almost thirty past three. "well, if it helps i hope that boy she likes drops dead." the bartender laughed. "well, i should be going before i end up crying about my own sad love life. but thanks for the drinks and talk..." the bartender stuck his hand out, "matt." louis smiled as he happily took it, "louis."

louis left smiling, happy that he made a new friend. but soon that would change, but of course, he didn't know that.
