louis pulled over on the side of the rode, turning off the engine and sitting back against his seat. ahead of him was maybellene sitting on a rusted bench, her foot rapidly moving up and down. she seemed impatient and once she saw louis's car she immediately looked happy.

--

"how the hell did you manage to end up on the other side of town?", louis questioned her as they drove back home, the right way.

"riding the subway isn't always a walk in the park if you must know.", she answered. "i thought i was on the right train but-"

"you obviously weren't.", louis finished for her. she just grumbled and rolled her eyes, sinking into her seat as louis continued driving. it was now almost 10 at night and there weren't many cars in the streets. the street lights were on and time seemed to be slowing down.

"why were you even out?", louis asked, looking over to her for a small second before returning his eyes to the road.

"well aren't you full of questions?", she replied jokingly, gaining a small grin from louis. she continued, "i went in for an earlier shift and i got out at 6 and the next train was leaving in 10 minutes so i ran to the station and boarded a train that i thought was going north but turns out it wasn't."

louis laughed. "i didn't realize this until my phone died thus not allowing me to listen to my music, thus now allowing me to hear the intercom, thus informing me that the last stop was coming up and to my great luck, it wasn't mine.", she finished, the shame covering her face.

"you're such an idiot, do you know that?", louis said, turning to her as they were stopped at a red light.

"mhm, the best one you'll ever know.", she smiled, leaning back into the passenger seat.

louis just shook his head and kept on driving, ignoring that bubbly feeling in his gut that he hadn't felt a long time. a very long time.
