Helen's POV

I lifted the brown cardboard box onto the table in my small room. It was fairly heavy which made me nervous as I thought of opening it. If the Creators really were watching us from the Beetle Blades, why were they not helping all of the people who had died? Alby told me that the reason the people's name's are crossed out on the stone wall was because they died. At first I couldn't believe it, but I realized that they called the Deadheads that for a reason. It makes me shiver just thinking about it.

I rip open the box with a shaky hand. I peak over the top to see a metal belt and a small piece of paper. My fear turns into confusion. They gave me a metal belt? Why not give me a leather one at least? I reach under the belt and grab the folded piece of paper that has my name fancily wrote on it. I open it up carefully as not to rip it accidentally.

Helen,

I don't have much time but I want you to have this. I made it specifically for you. It looks like a sturdy belt but if you use your hands to tighten it and twist it, it should turn into a weapon. There is something extra special on there that I'll hope will give you something from your past. You are going to need it later so train and try to make your body remember how to fight before it's too late. I wish you and my nephew weren't a part of this but unfortunately, this was the only way that you could be safe for a little while longer.

Eddie, the one that is or will be in your "Dreams" will more than likely be sent up soon. I'll try to get him out but he's important to you and that something WICKED will keep close. I need you too be strong and lead your friends and family to safety. Follow your heart and use your intelligence for you are more special than you think. Thomas will help you because that is who he is. Be careful of whom you may trust because everyone can be desperate and think what they are doing is right.

I heard from WICKED that you are remembering which makes them worried. You have already caught their attention being in love. Remember love is dangerous but for whom? Make me proud for I have decided to try and escape with some families from this horrible place. I doubt I'll be able to live through this one.

Keep Minho safe. He's the only family I have left.

The letter doesn't finish but I reread it a couple more times to make sure that all of this is real. I frown at all the information I had just read. Who's WICKED? Why be careful of who I trust? What does he mean by escaping? And is this even a guy who wrote this? A plague of questions infect my thoughts as I try to collect my thoughts. I feel my chest caving in and my heart beating louder. I don't know what to do with all of this information. It was too confusing.

I shake my head to see if that works but it doesn't. I start to think of Minho and how this person knows him. Maybe if I just think of Minho my brain will clear. I imagine his perfect quiffed up black hair and his sparkling eyes that reflect love and amusement. His nose that makes his face look flat and his smile stand out even more. I feel myself calming down as I move onto his white teeth that seem to shine just as bright as his eyes. His cheeks inch up when he smiles creating a dimple for each cheek. The usual crescent moons hide his eye but if you look close enough, you still see that unique sparkle in his dark brown eyes.
