Daves POV:
All weekend, all you did was practically mope. Dirk eventually got sick of all of your bullshit, so he ended up dragging you out of the house for a nice, long walk through the brisk air, somewhat livening the mood.
"What, the boy you've been pining about for ten years now has a girlfriend? You know, he might not even like boys like that."
"Thanks, Dirk. Really, thank you. Tell me, when was the last person you chased after someone who might not even like you? You're in the same boat as me, but the only thing is, you're full on gay. It's harder for you."
Dirk shrugged. "I mean, yeah you've got a point. But I don't go falling for cute humans like you."
You made a little "tsk" noise. "Really? You don't fall for humans?"
His facial expression didn't change, although his face was red. Either from embarrassment at being caught, or from the cold hitting your faces. You suppose it's actually the latter, because when was the last time Dirk blushed like that? You also begin wondering if your face is red, because your cheeks are cold and you're aware of the tips of your ears. Plus your fingers stay inside your red hoodie, scared to come out to greet the frost that lingers in the atmosphere.
"Yeah, I don't." He replied, nonchalantly.
"What about that British boy with the dark hair and glasses?" You tried to get at him, but clearly Dirk was having none of it.
"Him? He's an acquaintance."
"Last time I saw you, you guys were only bumping in the hallway without much of a name behind each other." You smile, gladly teasing your brother as your voice is high and questioning and you make yourself sound like one of those smart anime-characters who talk analytically.
"Shut up." Dirk responded, honestly sounding a bit insecure by this point.
You gladly take that as a victory, and for a moment you're freed of the sorrow you've had all weekend, but soon enough you feel it starting to drag on you.
"Dirk?" You ask, feeling awkward saying this. "What do I do?"
He made a little, "Hmm..." Noise before responding. "Nothing, I guess. It's not like you wanna destroy his happiness, too. Just keep being there for him until he notices you."
Some thought hits you after listening to Dirks words, and you start bursting out into laughter; you're half bent over, tearing behind your aviators.
Eyebrow raised, Dirk asked kind of confused and worriedly, "Dave, what the fuck is so funny?"
You can barely speak, you just feel your stomach heaving as the epiphany hits you. "Y-Y-you know, for a couple of demons, we're very human." You were referring to how nice the couple of you were. How you were troubled with love, when years ago all you cared about was yourself and your brother, and not much else mattered.
A chuckle passed Dirks lips, finding the epiphany ironic as well. "Well, I guess once we've been around humans for so many years, we're becoming like them?"
"Maybe getting sent out of hell does that, too?"
Dirk suddenly stopped his giggling tone, becoming slightly more distant. "Yeah. Maybe it does."
You return home, a little better after walking and talking, but the thought of your crush being straight and in a relationship was something that somehow never crossed your mind until Friday.
After a little while more of thinking, you've come up with a plan. But this is something that you absolutely have to run by Dirk. If you go behind his back on this, he's not going to like it.
