Daves POV:
You really had to suck it up, didn't you? You suppose it's for the best. Your brother was probably right about the whole thing, and even though you didn't confess-which now seems like a stupid idea to even think about confessing for the little amount of time that's he's known you-you became closer to him. You know his friends, now, and you have been texting him all day. Well, school day, that is. Ever since seventh period let out, you haven't seen nor heard of him. Your phone says he's no longer logged into pesterchum, and you're wondering what he's doing.
"He's probably hanging out with his damn girlfriend."
John's girlfriend seemed a little...a little head strong might be a way to put it lightly, and John isn't one to look at the worst side of others. But man, did you swallow your pride and try to be nice. You didn't like her from the get-go, and now you might like her even less.
But his friends were cool. Karkat made you wanna laugh the entire time-all of his insults were combinations of words you could casually retort back at. Jade seemed to keep him in check, but besides just doing that, she seemed cool when you talked to her. Rose was writing things down in a book with a light purple pen, and when you asked what she was writing she just grinned and said something about wizards in a kind of condescending way as if she was lying, but you still felt like there was truth in her words. Jake, however, was not so smooth when it came down to the clear base of everything. It was completely obvious to anyone within a glimpse of him and Dirk, that the dark haired boy had a thing for your brother, and your brother was just as see-through.
You're laying on the carpeted floor of the den of your apartment, your arms sprawled out, phone in your hand as you watch the new app you downloaded. You didn't even knew it existed, let alone that it was John's favorite way of texting. You made a username and everything in second period, and decided to text him when it fit best later in the school day.
The screen didn't change. You kept waiting and waiting and, oh look at that-more waiting. But ectoBiologist never once returned.
"Uuughhhh what the hell is taking him so long?" You moan, looking at your brother who was once again tinkering with stuff.
As Dirk was using a wrench and the sharp, metallic noise of a screw turning sounded through the apartment, he replied, "Maybe it's like you said? Maybe he's with his girlfriend?"
You lift your head off of the ground some, suspending yourself with your arms. "But it's been hours."
Dirk set the wrench down and stared at you, his orange eyes out in the open, his shades set on the table away from anything that could possibly injure them. "Dave, stop being a little whiney baby and actually do something productive. You've been annoying me for hours." He picked up the wrench and that metallic sound started up again.
That was weird. You didn't sense a mad vibe from him, but you sensed one nonetheless. It wasn't anger, or annoyance, it was mostly something other than that that seemed odd and out of place. Fear? Was it fear? Was he afraid of something?
You sit up completely and look over at him. He doesn't notice. He's too busy doing whatever it is he's doing. When he sets the wrench down, he wipes his brow and his gaze stares at you. "What?" He asks defensively.
"Are you okay?" You kind of sing-songed the word, "you" as if to not make it sound as if you're not so concerned.
"Yeah, I'm fine, why?"
"No reason." You tap your fingers on your leg. If only Dirk would go on nervous rants like you. That would make a lot of things be easier by a long shot.
