Beams of light filtered in through the cracks in the curtain as James lay on his back on the knobbly mattress. Moonlight; streaming in shocks of muted grey that sliced through the abyss of pitch black in the warm haze of the bedroom. Jim observed with disinterest as particles of dust danced visible through the streams, nothing more than the darkness to focus his gaze on as he lay so motionlessly, sheets shielding only his lower half from the biting chill of the air, and the rise and fall of his chest looked to be the only thing living within the expanse of his own senses. The mood, he felt, was ethereal, and his gaze became glassy as he was left to his own thoughts.

Complacently, his head rested on the pillow, strands of ebony jutting in shocks and swirls as his hair splayed out in contrast to it's stark white, and the flow of pitch black was disrupted, faltering before taking a new dishevelled form as he slowly turned his head to look at the man sleeping so peacefully next to him. Jim's gaze studied him, observing the slow rise and fall of his chest and the settled expression adorning his features as he rested, dimmed in the darkness.

After a few moments, Jim's observant eyes settled, half lidded with peace of mind, on the small movements Sebastian made. How his nose twitched as to get rid of an itch in the midst of his slumber ; the slight furrow in his brow at any disturbances; and the long sigh exhaled, causing his chest to rise and fall with more prominent movements for just a moment. With a slight shift, Sebastian moved, rolling over onto his stomach and throwing a strong arm over Jim's torso seemingly in the midst of his slumber. The sudden movement had him pressed to Jim's side, face buried unconsciously in the crook of his neck, and he took a deep breath. Jim's gaze had fixed back on the ceiling, focusing on the only source of light still filtering in from outside, and he startled slightly as Sebastian shifted, mumbling against his neck with his voice husky from sleep

"You awake?"

His eyes fluttered closed, mute grey swallowed by pitch black as he let out a long, shallow breath, and he gave a slow nod, voice quiet as he whispered out

"Yeah"

There was a brief pause between the two, a comfortable silence filtering through the air around them with only the sound of quiet breaths filling vast space, and Sebastian's lips brushed against his neck as he mumbled out a question

"What time is it?"

Jim's head slowly turned after the registering of his question, facing the clock on the bedside table, and the glare of the lettering illuminated the small space with a glowing bright red. He murmured out into the quiet, his own voice reverberating with the echo, and made him sound hollow

"3:17..."

Sebastian groaned into the crook of his neck, shifting and pressing into him further as his arm pulled him tighter against his body

"Oh god...it's way too early..."

"Hmm...go to sleep then"

Sebastian cracked a tired, amused smile against his neck, his chest rumbling with a hoarse laugh as he chuckled

"Planning on it"

They both settled then, breathing almost in sync and pressed together under the sheets as they lay in the quiet emptiness of their bedroom. Seconds stretched into minutes, suspended and elongated in the company of each other, and after a while, Jim's head lolled to the side, cheek pressing against the crown of Sebastian's head. Blonde tufts prickled the delicate skin of Jim's cheek, jutting and spread out across the span of porcelain white, dulled with the darkness of the room.

Pressed so tight against him, Jim could feel Sebastian's breathing eventually start to slow and even out against his own chest, and slowly, he shifted, only slight, to press a lingering kiss to the top of Sebastian's head, the smooth, blonde tufts soft against his lips, before muttering quiet, eyes closed

"I love you"

Jim hadn't expected for Seb to hear him, assuming him to already be asleep, but after a few seconds, hot breath blown against his neck in a small sigh, he felt Sebastian's lips stretch up into a small smile, shifting to press a soft kiss where his neck met his shoulder, and mumbling a quiet 'I love you too' in return as Jim looked down at him.

Again, Sebastian shifted, pressing his face back into his earlier position, buried in the crook of Jim's neck, and Jim was gazing down at him with a small, fond smile twitching at the corner of his lips. Moments later, he was assuming his earlier position to follow Sebastian into sleep, his cheek again pressed to the crown of his head, and they both drifted off with contented, fond smiles on their faces, comfortable in the arms of one another.
