*~! Allison's POV !~*I smiled at Cody as he was driving towards his home, telling me stories of his dog, Chief, who I was excited to meet. Apparently, he was a German Shepard, but wasn't mean at all, so that made me a little more calm; I wasn't good around big dogs. I sat in the car as Cody jogged into his house quickly, but coming out quicker. I turned to look at Chief as Cody put him in the back seat of his truck. He was adorable, but you could tell he was a little older. I stuck my hand out towards him, and he granted me with a kiss. I giggled as my hand began to dishevel his manicured fur as Cody cranked up his Ford again.
"He likes you," Cody smiled over to me as I continued to play with Chief.
"I love him, already! He's the cutest thing," I cooed as Chief's tail wagged furiously under my touch.
"Alright, buddy, she's supposed to like me more than you!" He chuckled as he pulled into my house, and I hopped out of his car with a laugh also.
I all but sprinted to the front door, excited to see that my mother was in attendance. I gave her a smile before jogging to the basement, where Chloe usually was. She loved to sit by the large window that was solitary in the basement, and soak in the sun. Her fur was dark, resembling the night sky, which contributed to her sun absorption. She perked up once she heard me step off the last step, and immediately ran towards me. I squatted to rub her head before connecting her collar to her favorite pink leash.
I came back upstairs after a few minutes, and my mom was waiting for me at the top of them with a certain look on her face. She sighed as she suddenly pulled me in her arms, rubbing my back before pulling away with tears at the brim of her eyes.
"Mom... What's wrong?" I questioned, raising my eyebrow.
"Nothing, baby. I just never get to spend a lot of time with you anymore; working at the hospital has it's pros and cons," she frowned, wiping her tears away.
"I was going to take Chloe for a walk with Cody and his dog, but I can stay and hang out with you, if you want?"
"No, sweetheart! You go have fun, and be young. We'll have our time later," she winked as I furrowed my eyebrows again; she was acting strange. I hugged her again, and pecked her cheek once she pulled away, calling a goodbye over my shoulder.
I climbed back into Cody's truck after putting Chloe in the backseat along with Chief and the two were sniffing before I could shut the door. I looked over as he stared at me, confusion and concern on his face as I sighed again. He gripped my hand in his, lifting my chin with the other as he gave me a tight lipped smile.
"Everything okay?"
"Yeah, babe, everything's alright. My mom was just emotional about us not getting to spend any time together," I shrugged as he nodded.
"Do you want to do this another time?" He questioned, biting down on his lower lip.
"No, no! It's fine, she's okay now. We'll probably have a girls' day tomorrow or something. I promise, it's alright," I smiled as he slowly released my hand, still peering at me as he started his car, and pulled from my driveway.
Children organized teams as their parents watched, making sure everyone was playing fair, and doting over the only man that was sandwiched in the middle of all the mothers. Runners sprinted past us as we walked the trail down to a creek, saying their apologies as we smiled courteously. Chief and Chloe had been absorbed in each other's company, barking at any dog who even neared them, threatening to steal one away from the other. And the sun beamed as Cody held my hand tightly in his right, and a leash in the left.
