CHAPTER 2

I caught my breath again and sucked in a lungful of air before turning swiftly on my feet and racing back towards Joel and the car. I never, ever in my entire life as a hunter thought I'd be running to a vampire for help. Especially from another vampire. I back traced my steps from the house letting Kale follow quietly behind me. I paused in mid-step when a numb chill ran through my blood, I inhaled deeply and caught Kale's and Joel's scent on the breeze.

"What's going to happen to me now?" I asked the forest in front of me as I followed the trampled shrubs and brush towards the cal-de-sac. The deadly silent night replied with creaks and groans of wood tensing against the harsh breeze now and then sweeping my hair to the side.

"We're all going back home and you're coming with us. We cant have you running off and telling all the other little hunters where Marissa's village is now can we?" Kale's taunting voice echoed from behind me and I sighed as my heart constricted painfully. I already missed my Aunt and I really wanted to sleep.

I sighed as I continued walking and finally broke through the tree line and saw Joel in the car. My mind raced back to what had just happened between me and Kale and my hand automatically reached up to stroke the smooth skin at my neck. Joel's eye narrowed slightly as he noticed the smoothness of my neck, "Hurry up, we don't have all night." He shouted from the window, he turned away from me and Kale as we walked back towards the car. As we walked Kale paced along side me and every now and then his hand would brush against mine. The same tingles from earlier raced up my arm and I gasped quietly, I noticed out the corner of my eye the smirk that lined his lips.

"Jerk." I muttered under my breath as I opened the car door and climbed into the back. I regretted it when Kale slid in beside me, I growled under my breath as he smirked again. Joel's eyes found mine in the mirror and I scowled.

He looked away and flicked the stereo on, the noise filled the car as he notched up the volume. I crossed my arms over my chest and pouted, this was going to be a very long night. I kicked my shoes off and sat crossed legged on the seat, I grumbled unintelligibly as the dress hitched up a bit but I didn't care anymore, this was becoming ridiculous.

I flinched when I felt the tingles on my leg, I glance down and gaped at Kale's hand on my thigh. I looked from his hand to him and back several times, but the smirk on his face never moved.

"Kale." I growled out quietly making sure not to alert Joel, I didn't want another thing pissing him off. He was grumpy as it was, turning around and finding his hostage being flirted with by his brother is probably not a good idea.

Kale grinned at me as he slid his hand further up my leg, my eyes bulged as my hand shot out to stop his. The sudden movement made Joel look back to me in the mirror again. I scowled and watched as he turned back to the road.

I glanced at Kale and nodded to his brother then shook my head with a firm scowl on my face, he laughed silently and shook his head. Before grinning and flipping his hand over so he laced his fingers with mine. The tingles intensified and I shuddered.

I wandered mentally whether he felt them too, but I was pulled out of my little reverie when Kale pulled me onto his lap my back was to his chest and my legs on either side of his. I shot a look to the mirror and relaxed when Joel didn't look back this time.
