I'm sorry
~~~~~~
"You look beautiful, sweetie." My mom said. Tonight I was meeting Jack's parents, and to say I was nervous would be a massive understatement.
"I don't know how I feel about this dress..." I said and played with the end of the cyan summer dress I had on.
"I told you, you look beautiful." She sad and kissed my forehead. "What time did Jack say he'd pick you up?"
"Half five." I replied.
"Well he should be here in less then ten minutes then." My mother smiled and walked away somewhere, probably the kitchen. I didn't realise how quickly the time went by. I sat on the sofa and waited anxiously for Jack, twiddling my thumbs.
A knock on my front door caught me off guard. I took a deep breath and stood up from my seat. I walked to the door and opened it to see a smiling Jack.
"Hello, beautiful." He said and pecked my lips. "You ready to go?" He asked.
"Yeah." I shakily breathed. "Mom, I'm going!" I called out. She said something back but I couldn't hear her, so I just shrugged it off.
"Let's go." He said and walked with me to his shitty car.
The whole drive I was on edge. I was so paranoid of what was going to happen. Jack had noticed my behaviour, so he placed a free hand on my knee and gave it a reassuring squeeze.
"Everything is going to be okay." He spoke softly.
"What if they hate me?.." I replied, my voice dripping with worry.
"I'm sure they won't.. I-I'm erm positive." he said sceptically, like he was unsure with what he was saying. That worried me even more.
We reached Jack's house. Jack opened the car door for me, like a gentleman, and lead me to the door by hand. I held his hand tighter due to my nervousness.
He walked me through the hall and into the living room, where both of his parents sat, however they were both occupied with other things.
"Mom, dad." Jack said to get their attention. Both of them looked up and they both looked instantly confused. "This is my girlfriend, Alexis." He said and finished with a loud gulp.
"Haha, very funny, Jack. There's no need to prank us like this, dressing up one of your friends like a girl." His dad said. He thought this was a prank?..
"This isn't a prank, dad." Jack said a bit more bitterly. "This is my girlfriend." He said again and but emphasis on the word 'is' and 'girlfriend'.
"So either you're dating a very flat-chested, manly featured girl or you're dating a delusional freak." His mother said. Her comments made me upset, as she reminded me off the flaws I had about my self, also her calling me a delusional freak didn't help with my self confidence.
"Don't you call her that." He spat. I loosened my grip on his hand, he held it tighter then ever.
"For goodness sake, Jack!" His mother shouted, "Stop using female pronouns." She stressed.
"Just because she's not biologically female doesn't make her any less of a girl." Jack said. "Can we please drop this? It's not a big deal, okay? I just wanted you to meet her." He said calmly.
"Not a big deal?" His dad repeated with a scoff. "You've brought a mental boy into our household, Jack." He said. I felt tears trickle in my eyes at the things being said. Jack said they wouldn't hate me.
"Get out of my house, you freak." His mother said and stood up.
"She's not going anywhere!" Jack yelled. "She hasn't done anything to effect you in anyway!" He shouted again. I got scared. Scared of being here.
"I don't want you anywhere near my son!" She yelled and ripped us apart. I stepped back a little at the action. Tears were finally running down my face. She gripped onto my shoulders and pushed me back into the hall.
"Don't you dare hurt her!" Jack shouted. She turned back around and looked at Jack.
"Don't you dare talk to this boy ever again, Jack Bassam Barakat." She warned.
"You can't tell me what to do, you fucking lunatic!" He shouted. I saw Jack's dad stand up and stomp towards Jack. He raised his hand and slapped Jack across the face. I flinched and ended up with my back against the wall.
"Don't you dare talk to your mother like that!" His father yelled.
"You. Out. Now!" His mother shouted and pushed me at the door. "Go!" She shouted again. I reached behind me and found the door handle. I opened the door quickly and I ran out.
I ran half way through the drive way and then stopped in my tracks. I broke down. My eyes were clouded with tears. I can't believe what happened back there. I wasn't just crying for myself, I was crying for Jack too.
Some part of me wanted to go back there and defend myself and Jack, but I ended walking home in a slump instead. I most likely looked like a hot mess, whilst walking. My eye makeup was smudged and I'm walking barefoot, since I can't trust myself to walk home in heels at night.
I got home and just let myself in.
"Alexis?.." I heard my mom call.
"Yep.." I said sad and unenthusiastically. She walked in to the hallway and looked at me.
"Honey, why're you home so early?" She asked. And before I could answer, she asked me another question. "What happened?"
"I don't want to talk about it, mom." I sighed and walked past her.
I scrubbed off my makeup effortlessly and changed my outfit. I pulled the covers of my bed back so I could get in them, and that's when I heard my phone buzz..
Jack: We have to break up..
