Chapter 3

Mai's POV

I heard someone call out my name and I know the voice that called out for me. The voice that I once held dear to or do I still love the owner of the voice?

I turned to see the person. It was Naru. Why is he here? Is he here for me? MAI get your act together. I told myself. If not I will breakdown like I did before and this time I don't think I will be able to survive. To me he is the scientist Oliver Davis, that's it.

Normal POV

Naru was now standing right in front of Mai. He was drinking her form in. she looked like a goddess to his eyes.

"Hello Dr Oliver Davis, How have you been?" Mai asked. Naru was supposed to be pleased about the fact that she is still talking to him. However that's not how he felt, he felt a sudden pain near his heart. He was hurt by her words. Her voice that once contained cheerfulness now has no emotions, her eye once that always smiled was gloomy and unable to read.

"Well hello Mai, I am fine, how about you? And why are you here? Do you live around here or are you here for a specific reason" Naru said

"Well... I am here for the same reason as you are." Mai said

For a moment Naru seemed shocked however he hid it with his emotion less façade. "Is that so, then I presume you are the other investigator the council members were talking about. Where are your team mates then? Are they inside or are they yet to arrive"

"Well for your information Oliver - san, I am a solo investigator. Meaning I am capable of doing things on my own" Mai shot at Naru.

"What nonsense Mai. We all know you could get yourself killed if no one is looking after you. You are a trouble magnet." Naru replied

"Don't talk like you know me Mr Oliver Davis. I have been well for the past three years on my own and even before that." Mai spat at him.

"Oh and to make things clear, stay out of my way and mention this to your employees as well" Mai then took of leaving a puzzled Naru at the shore.

Naru POV

Was that really Mai? What happened to her, what changed her in these past three years? What happened to her smile? What the hell happened here while I was away?

I went inside to the base to see everything was set and going. He looked at the SPR members who were laughing and joking around. The only part that was missing is why they are laughing without Mai with them? I cleared my throat gather their attention.

"So, let's go through this case. The Okinawa council have approached us regarding the paranormal activity that's going on in this house. Three months ago they wanted to demolish this house to turn it in to a tourist resort, however they are unable to do so due to the fact that the workers are getting injured when they start to demolish the parts of this house. In the beginning it was minor injuries as if the ghost or whatever that's here want to scare them away, however it started to get worst. So they stopped the demolishing work until everything is solved" I concluded the case.

"This is clearly the work of an earth spirit." Matzusaki-san said

"Shut up you old hag, what do you know?" the monk shot back

"Stop calling me a hag you stupid and perverted Monk!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" She yelled at him.

"Guys stop fighting" the young priest said

"John-san do you have any questions regarding the case" I asked

"None, however I am getting a feeling that whatever that's here it strong" He said " I can just feel it"

"He is right, it has such blood lust" Hara- san said "It's a good thing that's Mai is not here, if she was I am 100% sure it will make her his first target".

I felt my blood run cold for a second. "What make you think that?" I asked.

"Mai has a sweet aroma that attract the spirts to her, the aroma that make the spirit think that she is the key to make them relive from their pain and sufferings. She once told me that."

I looked at Lin and said. "Lin, tell your Shiki to guard each and every corner of this place and let me know if there is a slight disturbance"

"Listen up all of you this is a dangerous place, so I want you to pair up with another person and I will pick the pairs"

"Matzusaki - san and Monk"

"What!!!! You can't Pair me with this pervert/ Hag" both of the yelled. I just glared at them. A head ache was forming at the either side of my head.

"Next, Hara- san and John-Kun" both of them nodded

"Lin you will be paired up with Madoka and Yasu, who will be joining us tomorrow morning "

Lin quickly shot up from his chair and said "Then what about you? You are my first priority"

"No I am not, your wife and the unborn child will be the first priority and I am leaving Yasu at your care as he don't have any ability to protect himself, furthermore I will be with the will the investigator that's joining us on this case and to let you know she said to stay out of her way" After that I walked away. I could hear complaints from Matzusaki-san and monk however my mind was preoccupied with my thoughts on Mai.
