Song of the Chapter:
"Oblivion" by Bastille
_____________________

Once I got home (by foot, might I add), it was 2:36 in the morning. I thought my parents were most likely asleep until my mom walked out of the kitchen, tiredness consuming her eyes.

"Hey," I whispered.

"Why are you home so late, Madison?"

"I had to walk, I didn't have money for the bus and Justin and I might not be on good terms right now."

She scrunched her face. "What happened? What about Samantha?"

"Samantha stayed with Justin at the party, she had a ride with someone else. The situation with Justin, I'd rather not talk about." I could feel a pinch at the back of my eyes remembering how Justin was probably so bipolar today. One minute he acts a bit nervous, the next he's snapping at everyone who talks to him. Then he's insulting my bestfriend, and then overprotective of me. I just needed some space.

My mom gave me a slight hug, before looking at me with her hands on my shoulders.

"Look, sweetie," she said. "It's been a long night, and I'm sure Justin just has a lot going on right now. Don't sweat it, this'll all blow over by tomorrow. Okay?"

I nodded lightly before pulling my mom into an embrace. She always knew to comfort me when I needed it. I gave her a kiss on the cheek before we went to sleep.

The following day, I woke up fairly late. It was 2 in the afternoon, and my phone's vibration woke me up.

Missed Call: Samantha.

I sighed and as I was about to call her, my phone rung once again.

"Hello?" I picked up.

"Care to explain what the fuck happened last night?" I heard Samantha scold, her tone obviously indicating her frustration.

"I don't know," I admitted, shrugging. "I can't really tell you that."

"Are you mad at him?"

"I have no reason to be, do I?"

A small silence came, before I heard Samantha sigh, then spoke again.

"Look," she began. "I've never seen him so vulnerable. I know how you are when you want to be left alone and I had to convince him out of going after you. He just kinda started beating himself up because he thought you left him. I haven't talked to him since last night."

You ever hear or see something that makes you stop in your tracks and wonder why the fuck you're such an idiot? After that, I came into realization that Justin hadn't texted or called or tried to get my attention.

"Oh my god," I said. "Sam?"

"Hm?"

"I'll call you later, okay?"

She said a simple yes before hanging up. I threw my phone on my bed before rushing downstairs in a quick changed pair of clothes. I saw Pattie with my mom, and they were talking.

"Hey, Pattie, where's Justin?" I asked, not caring if I was interrupting their conversation.

"He's at home," she said. "You okay? You seem in a rush."

I shouted yes as I ran out to their home, opening the door that was unlocked. I saw Justin in the kitchen and I realized he hadn't heard me come in. I walked in quietly and wrapped my arms around his torso, pressing my cheek into his back before I started to sob quietly.
