"Something's up with calum," Ella's best friend, Bree said as the two sunk into the mattress of Ella's bed. "He's like, really sad. I can see it in his eyes."

"What are you talking about, B?" Ella raised her eyebrows, peeling her eyes from her phone and glancing at her friend's computer screen.

"See for yourself! He's not happy," Bree said, pointing at the half smile Calum was giving an interviewer on her laptop.

Ella studied his face, recognizing that this usually happy expression was embedded with melancholy features. The normal crinkles and dimples that appeared by his eyes when he smiled where non-existent, and his entire body sagged, as if something was brutally pushing down on him.

Ella figured that stress was getting to him, after all, it's not easy being on the road. Maybe the weight of the world was balanced on his shoulders.

She couldn't have been farther from the truth, because in reality, Calum's world wasn't balanced on his shoulders. His world was somewhere is the abyss that is earth, not
responding to his text messages.
