Decorating the tree

You pressed play on the player that W.C.K.D had sent to you. None of you could really remember what it was but after some people played around with it, Thomas had found a button that made songs come out. Along with the music player, they also sent a book about Christmas. In the book a green monster stole Christmas from the village but had a turn of heart and ended up celebrating Christmas. Reading the book had almost become a tradition and you had decided that decorating a tree would be a good way to start the holiday.

You were humming to the song on the disk as you had heard it a lot lately. You and the other oldest gladers were putting ornaments on the tree to surprise the younger ones. "I think I like Christmas, this is fun." Thomas said with a smile on his face. Everyone, to your surprise, nodded and murmured in agreement. Even Gally and Alby looked happy, the happiest you had probably ever seen them. The tree was starting to look beautiful, you had decorated it with various things found around the homestead. The builders had made some of the ornaments. Newt and you had had a session where you painted them and made them look like other things.

The disk was almost at the last song when you put the last ornament on the tree. "Shucking perfect." Minho said giving everyone a toothy grin. Again, everyone nodded and you couldn't help but feel pride surging through your heart. It might have been a small thing but everyone had come together to work on this. Newt was studying the book and looking at your tree with a confused look. "What's up Newt?" you said noticing this. He studies the book for another minute before saying "I think we're missing something." Everyone looks up at this comment. "There's suppose to be a star on top I think." Newt continues realizing everyone's staring at him. At this comment everyone's face change, some to confused and some to a look of understanding.

"Well then I guess we better find a star." Alby says rubbing his hands together. Everyone gathers around Newt to see the picture. He points it out "But look, there's something different here." He says. "An angel." you whisper and everyone looks at you. Alby nods "That's what it is, which one do we want." He says. After a bit of a loud discussion you all decide on a star. The only thing you couldn't figure out was where to get one. At this point Jeff speaks up "Remember that box you thought was for us, but we had all our supplies?" he says towards Alby and Newt, they both nod. "I only opened it a little but then I was told we had everything, it sort of looked like it could be that though." Jeff continues. "What are you waiting for, go check!" Gally says excitedly, Jeff runs off.

When Jeff returns he has a huge smile on his face and a box in his hand. "Well?" Thomas says clearly expecting good news. Jeff pulls the star out of the box and everyone cheers in delight. "I found it!" He says proud of himself. You take the star from him and Gally lifts you up to reach the top of the tree. You place the star gently on top just as the sun starts to rise. Newt yawns and Zart rubs his eyes. "Wow" Frypan says quietly you all stop for a minute and look at the tree. Gally puts you down and your focus goes to the tree. With the light just so it looks as though the tree is glowing. Everyone is quiet. "Merry Christmas everyone." Minho says almost jokingly until everyone crushes him in a big group hug.
