Chapter 4

I wake up to a small blond haired girl was kneeling next to me. She was trying to feed me by stuffing some cookies from her basket into my mouth. I get up quickly and move so my back is to a knotty tree. I cough out the cookies and look at her cautiously. I feel disoriented and confused. I start to remember slowly. There are no trees in my grandpa's office. Where am I? What is going on?

I survey my surroundings. There is a long dirt road ahead of me. It looks like the bike path from home, long and narrow. Other than the road, a massive forest surrounds me. There are lush green trees everywhere. I mean everywhere, to my right, to my left, in front of me and I am assuming behind me but I don't want to take my eyes away from the girl who is eyeing me expectedly. As I look around, I can't shake the feeling of being watched by someone or something other than the girl. I search the trees. I spot what looks like a pair of red eyes in between some of the trees. I blink and the eyes are gone.

"Are you ok?" the girl asks, taking a couple steps toward me.

"Who are you?" I wondered out loud but soon as I spoke the words, I knew the answer. I was talking to a little girl in the middle of a forest wearing a long red hood and carrying a picnic basket. Hmmm. Now who could that be? Even though the evidence was overwhelmingly obvious, it wasn't actually enough to convince me though. What really convinced me is that I remember which book I picked up.... Little Red Riding Hood.

"Most people call me Red," grins the girl.

"This can't be happening," I shake my head and try to back up which was impossible since I had my back against a tree. I hear footsteps. We both turn our heads in the direction of a big group of trees where the approach is coming from.

"Hide!" screams Red just as something walks out of the forest and onto the dirt road. Hardly daring to believe my eyes, I see what looks like a huge wolf. There is something really weird about this wolf. I mean, other than the fact that I am staring at a giant wolf. It walked out of the forest on two legs wearing a top hat and carrying a long curved cane. So yeah, he was a fashionably dressed wolf too. I was completely shocked but then I remember two very important things:

1: I'm in a book.

2: The only wolf I know to be in this story is the big, bad, wolf and he's well, bad.
