Chapter 51
The fire in her eyes unnerves me, breaking me out of my bloodlust. Or paper lust? "Goldilocks I won't do it."
Her face widens into a smile. "Good let's go back and get Alice then." She says before turning and skipping back.
"What the? Uh? What?" I stutter out but she just keeps going. Girls, I think sighing. I'll never understand them. Heading back I see Goldilocks and Alice talking like normal. Alice is even complementing Goldilocks hair. Blah. That's when I remember what Merlin said way back when. He told Goldilocks that she would find a friend. But he also said to be careful about losing that friend. I'd better really watch out for them both.
"So what are we going to do now?"
Alice speaks up now. "Why do you think we didn't see any Heart cards in that castle?"
I think back to the cards that we saw at the castle. Alice is right. There weren't any Hearts guarding the door nor coming out of the castle coming after us. "I have no idea. Maybe they are the personal guards of the queen." Would make sense. Queen of Hearts having more Heart cards near her. I almost laugh out loud at my own thoughts. It's kind of ridiculous that just a few days I thought magic wasn't real and the most of my worries was being beaten up by the bullies at school.
"Maybe." Alice replies, looking like she's pondering the mysteries of the universe. That must have been what I was like a few days ago when I got sent into my first book.
"Well since I'll take a bit of a break from that house of cards place so we can figure out how to get in without triggering the army of cards, want to go looking around? Maybe we'll find out where the rest of the cards are." I suggest.
"Sounds good!" Goldilocks says before grabbing Alice's hand and skipping off into a random direction.
I let out a sigh. "Girls," I mutter again before walking a bit faster than I would normally to catch up to them.

Walking for who knows how long we stop to have some drinks and a bit of food. It feels like I haven't eaten since forever ago. Goldilocks feels the same. I conjure up some lasagna on plastic plates with cutlery and some apple juice and orange juice to drink.
Alice looks at the food hesitantly before I assure her that it won't make her a 25 foot tall giant again. Seeing as I turned her back into her regular size , and Goldilocks reassuring her, she believes me.
After I am done I go for a walk around our little campsite. The girls eating slowly and jabbering on and on about their lives. I'm sure Alice didn't need to know what Goldie's 23 words she ever spoke were but who knows. Girls will be girls.
As I walk through the forest I ponder my life. To save my dad and my sister I have to give up my life. Hopefully I can reunite my mom with my dad before my time is up. I'm honestly shocked by how Goldilocks reacted. I would have. My thoughts are interrupted by a small shriek.
Worried for the girls I ran back to where I left them, 20 or so metres back. I find them both still just enjoying their food. They look up in concern when I charge through the trees back to them. Goldilocks even grabs a stick off the ground looking ready to strike anything that were to attack them. Seeing both of them alive and seemingly unharmed I make a 360, wondering where that shriek came from. A small voice interrupts my search.
"Excuse me sir you almost stepped on me. I would very much appreciate it if you were to apologize. I could have died you know?"
I look around until I spot something on the ground. I kneel down and notice that it's the 3 of Hearts. Not at all looking fierce and mighty like the other cards.
