Chapter 21
"That's not true. It just can't be true."
"It is. You weren't born in Cedar Hills. You were really born here, in Oz. I'm sorry if that hurts you but it's true." He looks like he's telling truth and he did use magic but I was born in Cedar Hills. That's what it says on my birth certificate.
"What about back in Arthur's land? You got trapped by Morgana. If you are Oz, you would have been able to escape. And what about when the monkeys attacked us here?"
"Well you certainly very smart." He chuckles. "My power in Oz comes from the actual ground. Magic is everywhere in Oz. I am most powerful here and I only know how to control my powers here. Other places, such as Camelot, have a different way of getting their powers. I'd have to have had relearnt how to use my powers in Camelot and I didn't learn. Also I didn't want to use my powers here unless I absolutely had to."
"Why didn't you learn magic?"
"Because if I asked Merlin to teach me some magic he would probably have said no and would have been suspicious as to why I wanted to learn. I also didn't want to mess up the chain of events. If Merlin wasn't somewhere else than the whole thing might have been ruined."
"Okay." I lean against one of the trees. "This is a lot to take in you know?"
Dad walks over to me. Of course I completely understand. You can take all the time you need. If you have any questions just let me know and I'll answer them the best I can."
I'm sure he would have said more but loud screech echoes through the air. It doesn't sound like an evil screech like the witches one. I look at my dad and he looks at me.
"Let's go" We both say at the same time.
We rush off toward the direction of the screeches further down the path. Running as fast as we can it only take us about 30 second to get to the screams with Goldilocks falling a bit behind.
We come out to a big clearing and see a small girl with long hair as black as night and skin as fair as anything I've ever seen. The girl is standing behind a large scarecrow that is running towards a whole pack of flying monkeys. This must be the scarecrow with no brain cause if he did have a brain I'm sure he'd be running the other way.
My dad raises a hand and shoot a volley of flames toward the moneys, frightening them and sending them back. They don't seem to want to give up quickly however because they circle back and surround all of us.
The forcefield comes up and the monkeys flying at us bounce off like bugs hitting a windshield. A couple of the monkeys fall unconscious and the rest veer up and don't go toward the forcefield anymore. They just float up in the air, more and more moneys joining into the pack until I am sure there are hundreds of monkeys.
"It's almost like they are waiting for something." Lancelot points out.
"It does indeed. Probably waiting for the witches to come." Dad says. He looks over at the girl and the scarecrow. This time the scarecrow is being held by the girl as he tries to lunch up to fight the monkeys. Luckily they are completely focus on us. I know my dad is powerful but would he be able to protect them and us. Especially if the witches get here.
"Dad we have to get to them. If the monkeys spot them...."
"Yes I know son." He lowers one of his two hands that is holding the forcefield up. The dark blue shield turns to a bit lighter blue. Dad points his, now free hand, at the girl, who I guess I can assume is Dorothy, and the scarecrow. The shield that forms around them is even lighter than ours. "They are too far away to be really protected. We have to move close." He looks at everyone. When his face passes by mine I see the bit of sweat dripping from his forehead and his crinkled forehead. I fear the effort of the power is too much for him to do for too much longer.
We all nod our heads and slowly we start walking toward Dorothy. I see the scarecrow break free and try to fling himself at the monkeys but he bounces into the forcefield and falls down. Dorothy notices us moving toward us. I raise my hand to tell her to just wait there and she gives me a small smile. All of a sudden I suddenly feel happy. I don't fully understand why.
Possibly the fact that I'm with my father again fully setting in. Maybe it's the thought of helping someone but whatever the reason I like it. I shoot a big smile back at Dorothy and for some reason she smiles even more. Must be glad of the rescue. I barely cover a laugh and Goldie looks over at me questioningly. "It's nothing" I whisper over to her.
She doesn't seem convinced but I guess neither am I. I'm super happy after such a long time and I don't even realize the reason.
Lost in my thoughts I realize that we have almost reached Dorothy. Up closer I feel my heart beating faster as I see her flawless face. Her amber eyes seem to see straight through to my soul and they compliment her black as night hair perfectly.
For a what seems like forever I stare into those eyes and she looks into mine. Everything around us seems like a blur. My thoughts are interrupted again and my eyes torn away as our force fields collide and form a bigger shield that is the colour of the darkest blue but somehow see through as well.
A laugh cries out that I seem to know all too well now. The wicked witch's. This time when I turn to see her, I see two of them.
While the first one had been fairly normal looking, you know I've had too much experience with witches when I think one flying around with warts and all on her face is normal, the second one was just plain weird. I remember reading the wizard of oz and yet this is not how I pictured the wicked witch of the West. I figured she would be green, ugly, and old. I could never have imagined that she would be just a bit older than me, good looking, and such a pale green that you'd only notice it if you were really looking for it.
She stares at me and a gigantic wicked looking smile is brought to her face. So this is your son. We meet at last. I really think we should have met sooner. Considering that you are my brother after all.
And here I thought nothing could surprise me anymore.
