Chapter 18

Louis' POV

"Traitor!" Fin yelled at me. Shit! I thought frantically, mind racing. We're dead. Simple as that.

Fin turned around and sprinted away, probably going to find the others.

"June, hide!" I cried.

"But--" she started to protest, but I interrupted.

"Just do it!" I shot at her before racing after Fin.

This was just perfect. Now they knew. And there's no possible way that I could defeat any of them. Unless....

I imagined a lightbulb appearing over my head as I came up with a semi-brilliant idea. But it was soon ruined by another realization: I'm a vampire too, so that would kill me also....

Oh well. I'd die for June.

But before I could turn back around and go into the woods, something rammed into me, forcing me down. I looked up. Sean bared his fangs at me and hissed.

Derek was a dark blur as he grabbed my left arm and twisted it and pinned it behind my back. I gritted my teeth. It really hurt, but I wasn't about to give them any satisfaction by screaming.

Fin stalked in front of me and grinned at me. "Let the games begin," he purred.

And then they were on me.

June's POV

I shook violently in my boots as I heard screams of pain and roars of anger coming from beyond the woods. The evil vampires were occupying themselves with Louis, so I had a chance to run away and save myself.

But I didn't.

I wasn't about to leave Louis alone with those bloodsuckers.

But I waited for the sounds to stop soon. After all, three against one wasn't a very fair game. So, in other words, Louis was a goner.

But for some reason, they didn't stop. I realized that the evil vampires were just amusing themselves by hurting Louis. My blood boiled at that thought, and I felt my face heat up in anger. Screw whatever Louis said! I was helping him!

But how? I nibbled on my fingernails nervously as I assessed my surroundings. There wasn't much that could help me against vampires, who are practically invincible.

Okay, so let's try listing all of the things that make vampires weak or kill them.

Another scream that was most definitely Louis' made me jump. I had to do this fast. I didn't have much time.

Holy water, garlic.... I groaned and knocked my fist against my head. I know there's more! What else make vampires weak? They can't enter a building without being invited.... That didn't help me. And I happened to be on a short supply of holy water and garlic.

Wait, garlic! Louis brought me a bunch of Italian stuff, didn't he? There had to be some garlic in there somewhere!

But wait, I scowled. The vampires were between me and the house. New idea!

Holy water, garlic, and.... Of course! I snapped my fingers. Wooden stakes! When the stakes are pierced through the stomach the vampire dies!

I whipped around and started tugging at a tree branch. Hopefully an ordinary branch would do. And once I fought my way through, I could grab the garlic from the inside! I was a genius!

I stamped my foot against the trunk of the tree and tugged with all my might. The branch snapped off, and I nearly lost my balance and fell. I dug my fingernails into the wood and held it like a bat.
