Chapter 3
June's POV
I stopped crying a while back, but when I looked around the living room, Louis was gone. I got up reluctantly and went back to the foyer. He wasn't there either. I searched around the first floor. My heart pounded in my chest. This place felt haunted....
I discovered where the bathroom, kitchen, and a couple of bedrooms were, but that was about it. And no Louis.
I went back into the kitchen. I was kind of hungry, but I would have to be a fool to eat anything in this place. Who knew how old or disgusting it was? I pried open a cupboard and stared at the inside. Empty. Of course it was. Louis' a vampire, why would he need food?
I wondered how he became a vampire. Was he born one, or did someone turn him into one? If so, how old was he? My eyebrows shot up when I realized he could be billions of years old. That's harsh.
"What are you doing?" a voice asked, and I shot up in the air. I spun around. Louis was staring at me oddly, and I felt very uncomfortable.
"Just... looking around," I said weakly.
He narrowed his eyes. "Make yourself at home," he said grandly. "You'll be staying here a while, might as well get comfortable."
"How... how long will I be staying?" I asked.
He smirked at me. "Oh, I don't know," he said casually. "Maybe forever, at the earliest."
"What?" I cried. "No, you can't make me stay here forever!"
"Yes, I can," he retorted. "Unless you want all of your loved ones dead, you'll do exactly what I say." He scrutinized me, and he wrinkled his nose. "You interrupted me in the middle of my hunt," he muttered. "But I can't leave you here alone...."
I gulped. He was scaring me. I'm guessing a hunt was when he went around draining people. I shivered, and I felt my knees go weak. So disgusting and demeaning.
"What will I have for food or water?" I asked. "Are you just going to starve me to death?"
Louis smiled slightly like the idea amused him. "Certainly not," he said. "I'll find something."
"But why keep me alive?" I blurted out. "Why don't you just kill me?" I didn't list the advantages of me dead, because a) it might convince him, and b) I kind of liked living. At least, that was before I met him.
Louis nodded thoughtfully. "That's a good question," he conceded. "But who knows when you can work to my advantage?" I shuddered when he said that.
"Can I at least have some food now?" I pleaded.
He sighed. "Fine," he said. "But wait here." He was gone in a blur, and three seconds later he returned with a roll of duct tape and a coil of rope. "Take your pick," he said, sneering slightly.
I scowled. "Um, rope," I decided, my mind already spinning with plans of escape. Louis shrugged, pushed me into a chair, and began to tie me down.
"I'll duct tape you anyway," he said. "Can't have you screaming like a crazy lady and spreading stories."
I glared at him and tried doing something very unladylike: I tried spitting in his face. He dodged and smirked.
"Be good, June," Louis warned me as he stuck duct tape over my mouth. I was surprised that he remembered my name, and actually used it. I thought he would call me "slave" or "peasant".
"I'll be back," Louis told me lightly. "Don't try anything while I'm gone. You'll regret it." And with that last happy sentence, he disappeared.
Despite his warnings, I immediately began to assess how he had tied me up. I cursed: he had done a pretty good job. My wrists were duct-taped together, and my ankles were duct-taped to the legs of the chair. The ropes were wrapped around my middle area and around the back of the chair, holding me down. And lastly, there was a large piece of duct tape over my mouth. Lovely.
