The sky was dark, but at least the moon was out and it felt as it was illuminating the everything. I take away my gaze from the moon and look at the wooing voices coming from the inside of the tent. All the moving bodies dancing against one another, trying to get their soul out to the song that's being played. I'm not sure how they can be in such a crowded place and be able to move around carefully, I know I couldn't.
I look down at my phone with its illuminated screen brightening the whole table. I walk away from the loud music, vibrating my insides. "Hello." I say into the phone.
"Are you still there?" My mom's voice comes in, tired.
"Yes, but I should be leaving in a while."
"Okay. I want you home in an hour." She says. "Is April with you?"
"Yes." Somewhere in the crowded area, dancing.
"Okay. One hour, Tiffany."
"Got it." I say. "See you."
My stomach drops and my body goes cold when a gasp escapes me as I turn around to find a figure standing there. "You scared me." I breath.
"Why?" Ron puts his arms around my waste. "It's just me."
"You're drunk." The smell of liquor reaches me and I remove his arms around me.
"I'm not that drunk." He tries to reach to me again and I don't stop him. I hated it when Ron would drink, but I know that he can keep under control. I don't know why it unsettles me too much.
"I need to go home." I say, locking my hands behind his neck. "Is April ready?"
"Let's go find her." He leads me back to the loud music, to the crowds, to the combination of liquor and cigarette smoke in the air. "Stay here." Ron leaves me at the table that I was before. I take a sit and wait for him to come back with April.
I'm really glad that my parents let me come to this dance with Ron and April. I enjoyed the time I spent with Ron, we hardly get to spend anytime together. Only when my parents aren't home or when we're out of sight at his house. Sometimes he would come to my house late at night, when my parents were fully asleep, and I would go outside and lay down on the grass, looking up at the sky. It wasn't enough for us. I'm thankful for tonight and I'll never forget it.
"I have bad news." Ron returns to the table and takes a sit beside me.
"Where's April?" I look around to see if she's really there.
"She already left." He puts some dark liquid into a red cup from a glass bottle.
"What do you mean she already left?" I frown. "She was supposed to take me home."
"I guess she had better plans." He says.
Panic rises in me at the thought of who was taking us home. Of April isn't here then who will. I can't call my mom, she'll be mad, but she'll also be ,ad of I arrive home late or if I don't arrive at all.May be I should call her and tell her to pick me up, but what about Ron? I know my mom won't like the idea of him being a little intoxicated and knowing her, it's probably best at her not knowing any of this.
"Can you stop drinking that." I take away the bottle from Ron's hands as he was about to pour some more onto his cup. "We have to figure a way to get home."
"Fine." He stands up from the chair. "I'll be back."
"What? Where are you going?" I ask, but his already walking away. I try calling April, but she doesn't answer. She probably left with someone and forgot that we we're still here or she just left for a while but will be back. Either way, I have to be home in an hour and right now I have no way of getting home.
