Laney:
I woke up with my head against Niall’s bare chest. His hand was on my back and his breathing was slow. I tried to slide out of bed without waking him but it didn’t work. His eyes shot open and he smiled a perfect smile. “Good morning, how are you?” he asked in a deep, sexy voice. “Good, you?” I asked trying to make an escape to the bathroom. He grabbed my wrist and I winced a little bit. He noticed and let go. “Stay with me and talk for a while.” I shook my head at his undying cuteness. “Gotta brush my teeth so they don’t fall out.” And I walked out of the room swinging my arms back and forth.
When I came back into the room Niall was sitting up on the edge of the bed. I closed the door behind me and walked over to him. His hair was sticking up in all different directions and his bright blue eyes were practically glowing. He had been pulling on a pair of jeans but I walked over to him and grabbed his hands. I wrapped them around my waist and let the jeans that were halfway up his shins fall to the floor. I didn’t care about his morning breath in that moment, and I didn’t care what would happen next. I just knew in that moment I wanted his lips against mine.
I leaned in and wrapped my arms around his neck. My lips touched his and silently they moved together. Seconds later the door burst open and I turned to see Addie standing there with her jaw practically on my floor. I felt my cheeks grow red as I moved away from Niall and let him pull his jeans on. Once he was done he stuck a hand in his pocket and the other was rubbing the back of his neck. I introduced him to Addie and they exchanged a laugh that made no sense to me. Addie apologized for not hearing him and I just ignored them out of confusion.
“anyone else hungry?” I asked heading toward the door. Niall nodded and pulled on a lavender t shirt. The three of us walked down the stairs and sat at our island to eat our cereal. I felt Niall’s right hand on my knee and with my left hand I grabbed it. Our fingers were soon intertwined as we silently chomped on our breakfast. Addie flooded our ears with questions that we both ignored.
Sam came down the stairs and I heard him let some random girl out the front door. “Call me!” her annoying voice said as the door closed behind her. “Not going to happen” I heard Sam mutter under his breath as he appeared in the kitchen. “Whose that?” he asked pointing to Niall. “Rude” I said without looking up at him. I reminded him that a friend of mine was staying and he just laughed. Once he was done cracking up he laid a hand on my shoulder. “How you holding up Lane?” he asked in a soft voice. That was the Sam I liked. The nice brotherly not banging random girls every night Sam. “Okay.” I said as he walked away to fill his own bowl of cereal.
The four of us ended up watching movies and playing video games in our basement all day, without a care in the world what time it was. It felt nice to get my mind off of Riley and Ethan for a while, but still I felt like someone besides myself. I tried to push it aside, because Niall didn’t know about either of them, and I wasn’t about to bring them up.
It was getting late and the five of us were lying on the floor talking nonsense. Somewhere in the middle of the day a random girl came by to see Sam and he felt bad telling her to leave so she stayed. She wasn’t very smart and I think she was on heavy drugs. Either way she didn’t realize Niall was there or something because she basically ignored his existence. Sam wanted to go out for dinner but there wasn’t a fiber in my body that was about to get into a car of any sort. “Uhm, I think I’ll sit this one out.” I said picking at the carpet underneath me. “You sure? We can go wherever you want.” Addie assured me. I played with the ring on my finger and told them I would much rather stay home. Niall put a hand on my shoulder and said he’d stay too. It made me smile that he passed up an offer for food.
Once the other three left I reached my hand up for Niall to grab. He pulled me up off the carpet and we walked up the stairs to the kitchen. I hopped up on the counter. “What are you hungry for?” I asked him as I swung my feet over the edge. He opened my fridge and looked inside. “This?” he asked pulling out a bowl of fruit salad. “Uh, for dinner? Sure I guess if that’s what you want.” He nodded with his eyes widened. I pulled two forks out of the drawer beneath me and patted the space next to me. Niall hopped up and put the bowl in between us.
As he stuffed a forkful of watermelon and pineapple between his thin lips he asked me a question. “How come you didn’t want to go out tonight?” I didn’t think I was ready to answer the question so I popped a grape into my mouth. He looked up at me clearly awaiting my answer and I pointed to my mouth that was still chewing the food. Once I swallowed he ate a bite of fruit and asked me again. “So?” his voice was softer, clearly catching onto the fact that I didn’t want to talk about it. He put a hand on my knee. “Well, whatever it is you can tell me. But only if you want to.” I nodded taking another grape from the bowl.
