Niall:

We sat on Laney’s counter eating fruit for about an hour or two before Sam came back home. He was with a girl and Laney rolled her eyes as he stopped in the kitchen to grab two beers. “Isn’t he underage in America?” She nodded. “Yeah but he doesn’t care. He says the girls are easier when they’re drunk.” My eyes widened at her statement. “That’s rude, isn’t it?” I asked still shocked that those words actually came from her mouth. “Yep but he claims it’s what he wants to do so I let him. The girls know what they’re getting themselves into. They don’t care because he’s hot or whatever. I don’t know.” I nodded, sort of understanding. “So he’s kind of a stud?” she smiled at me. “Something like that.” She said hopping off the counter.

I followed as she walked down the stairs. When we got into the basement she took the cushions off of the sofa and threw them onto the floor. “What in the hell are you doing?” She pointed to the closet and asked me to pull out the light blue bag. I did as she said and she blew up the queen sized air mattress that was inside it. She used the sofa and it’s cushions along with some blankets to build a fort. She laid down on the bed and pulled me onto it. “What about pajamas?” I asked. She tapped her soft pink lips and then they formed a smile. “Give me your shirt” she said poking my stomach. I pulled off my shirt and threw it into her lap. She stood up and skipped over to the bathroom.

When she came back she was wearing my lavender shirt and it was down to just above her knees. I tried to look away as she bent over to put her clothes into a neat pile on the floor. As she turned away to face me I quickly looked away. In seconds I felt her drop onto my lap and pull my face into hers. Her taste was sweet and warm. She pulled away and let out a giggle. “Hi.” I whispered.

She rolled herself off of me and onto the air mattress. “How long are you staying?” She asked folding her hands under her head. I laid beside her and did the same with my empty hands. “Two weeks, if that’s not a problem.” I heard her head shake against the sheet that was beneath her. I let my eyes close. “Good, because I like spending time with you.” I turned to face her as I spoke the words and I let my eyes peel open just as her smile formed under her nose. I let my lips curl into a smile as well and pulled her into my chest. I felt her warm breath hit my cool skin as we fell asleep.

When I woke up my arms were still around Laney. Her hair was covering her face and I let myself laugh at that. Her eyes opened and she pushed her hair behind her. “Morning” I said with a half smile. She smiled but didn’t open her mouth as she stood up and walked to the bathroom. I let out a sigh and decided I needed to brush my teeth badly. I pushed the bathroom door open and came into immediate eye contact with Laney who was sitting on the toilet with my shirt bunched up in her hands. “Whoa sorry!” I said as I turned to face the wall, scratching the back of my neck. I heard the toilet flush. “It’s okay, just knock next time” I heard her say giggling. She washed her hands and we brushed our teeth together.

As I rinsed the toothpaste off my finger I splashed Laney with a handful of water. Her jaw dropped as she looked down at the wet spot on her belly. Her eyes met mine and I watched her scrunch her nose. I closed the door behind me and locked it. Still holding the knob I held out my left hand and held Laney away from me. “You can’t get me” I said sticking my tongue out at her. She turned around and walked to the window, resting her elbows on the windowsill. Slowly I walked toward her without making any noise. I wrapped my arms around her waist and kissed the top of her perfect little head.

“Niall?” She turned to face me with red eyes. I pulled her into my chest without asking what was wrong. Seeing her cry was one of the hardest things I’d ever done. I ran my fingers through her hair and she wrapped her arms around my middle. “What’s wrong sweetie?” She pulled her head out of my chest and looked up at me with her beautiful hazel eyes. “Riley’s gone” she said with quick breaths. I sat on the floor and pulled her into my lap as she told me everything.
