When I opened my eyes I was alone. I was really tired, my limbs and joints sore. I looked around confused, wiggling around in my hospital bed. I reached over to press a red button that I didn't know what would do but I did it anyways. When the quiet alarm started to ring, I began getting anxious. That's when it hit me that I was alone in a hospital.
When I tried sitting up the panic was setting in and two women in scrubs entered the room.
"Hi sweetie, my name is Dr. Rose. Can you tell me your name?" the blonde doctor said.
"Um," shit, what's my name?
"Oh, it's Aly. Alyssa" I remembered.
The doctor paused and looked down at her clipboard.
"What's your name?" I asked.
"Well like I said before, my name is Doctor Rose. This here is Claire, your nurse." She pointed at the pretty brunette watching me.
"Um, can I have some water?" I asked.
"Of course, I'll be right back." Claire said.
"How are you feeling?" Dr. Rose repeated.
"I feel fine." For some reason I was scared to ask what had happened to me.
Dr. Rose checked and switched my IV bags as my mom walked in.
"Oh my god! You're awake!" She yelled. Within the next second her arms were wrapped around me hugging me. It was such a familiar, comforting feeling but...something was missing. I couldn't remember memories with my mom. I knew who this woman was but I couldn't remember anything about her.
"Baby are you okay? You feeling okay?" Mom said, putting her hand on my face, examining my body all over.
"I'm fine-"
"Here's your water." Claire walked in and handed me a glass with a friendly smile.
"Alright Danielle, can you tell me when your birthday is?" Dr. Rose asked, standing next to me with her clipboard.
"Danielle?" I asked, wondering why she would make that mistake when I just gave her my name.
"That's your name." She said.
"My name is Alyssa." I stated.
"No, it's Danielle." Dr. Rose looked at me with sympathetic eyes.
My mind was racing but I couldn't pin point any of my thoughts.
"I think my name is Alyssa." I repeated.
"What's the last thing you remember?" the doctor asked me. I could feel everyone's eyes on me, the doctor, the nurse, my mom.
I stared blankly, unable to come up with an answer.
"Take your time." The nurse said.
I thought harder. It's hard trying to remember what the last time your remember is when you have no foundation for anything before that either. I knew my name was Alyssa, I was sure of it. The month of May was standing out to me. So was the month of June. I looked down at my hands, trying to spark any memories. A second later I was thinking about someone with dark hair, a tan skin tone like mine, and a nice smile.
"Holding hands. The last thing I remember is holding hands with someone." I said.
"Do you remember who?" My mom asked, her voice was desperate.
"A guy. Dark hair, tan...cute."
My mom looked down at her hands. "Sharks? Does that mean anything?" She asked.
