"Are you ready?" April gave me a sideways glance from the drivers side of her car.
"Ready as i'll ever be." I replied. I sighed and looked at my girlfriend.
"What about you, are you sure about this?" I asked before receiving a worried glance from April.
"Hey, if you aren't ready to face them then this can wait. They're a bunch of heartless bastards anyway..."
"Rob, i'm not going to back out of this again. I mean every day for the last week we've had this same conversation. I think it's time we show them that we're in this together and that we're happy that way." I took her hand in mine, giving her a reassuring look.
"We don't have to prove it to them, as long as we know we're good-- i guess that's all that matters."
I got out of the car and walked around to April's side. She had been contemplating for the last week about telling her group or not. Being one of the popular kids, she didn't want me to be bullied anymore than i was and she was extremely unsure of whether or not we should tell them.
I opened her door for her and looked up at the beautiful girl in front of me. I really had it bad for her.
I cupped her face and gave her a slow, tender kiss.
"I'm ready when you are." With that, i ran off. No one was around so they didn't see my little kiss with April.
I left April to think about her decision so i was lost in my own thoughts when she took my hand. I was taken by surprise and jumped, although seeing April by my side bought a bright, real smile to my face.
"Let's do this." And with that, we walked into the school holding hands.
April was a lot more tense than i thought she would be. I squeezed her hand and she gave me a soft, small smile.
As we walked into the hallway of our school, people seemed to stop and stare. Some even pointed, gawked and whispered. In all honesty, it was quite amusing to me but i kept the smile off my face and concentrated on April. She was freaking out a lot more than necessary and quite frankly, she looked like she regretted deciding to make it official.
I tugged on her hand and walked her to her locker.
"Breathe April. If you don't want to make this official, it can wait." She let out a breath i didn't know she was holding and seemed to relax. I wrapped my arms around her shoulders and she hugged me tight around my waist.
"I want to do this. I have to."
"You don't have to do anything you don't want, okay?" I kissed her forehead.
"Why are you so calm about this? Don't you want people to know about us?" She asked quietly.
"It's driving me insane that no one knows about us, but given your recent encounter with relationships, i'm not going to push it. We're in this together okay? When you're ready, i'm ready." I placed a soft kiss on er lips and walked off to my first class.
As expected, she didn't follow. I wasn't in a hurry to prove to anyone that we were dating. I had no friends, therefore i had no one to impress and people's opinions didn't often affect me.
I took my seat in English behind Derek and sighed.
"Look who it is, dorky Rob," he said turning around to face me.
"You know, it would sound a whole lot more insulting if you replaced the word 'dorky' with something starting with an R, 'cause you know... My name does start with an R and all."
"Whatever. If you're so smart, why don't you do my essay for me?" He whispered, 'threateningly'.
"Yeah right. That's just about as real as you getting laid tonight," i replied.
"Is that a bet?" he asked with a devilish smirk.
"No, it--"
"You're on, loser boy." With that, he turned around.
"Derek, it wasn't a--"
"Okay class, can anyone tell me what the metaphor for--
"Derek, it's not a bet," i whispered furiously to the back of his head.
"Robert Young. If you're going to talk during my lesson, please feel free to come back at lunch and discuss with me Shakespeare's meaning in the quote, 'these violent delights have violent ends and in their triumph die like fire and powder which--"
"as they kiss, consume." Both of us finished the quote, which i hoped would get me out of lunch time detention.
"Well done Robert, i have exempt you from lunch time detention. Now, be it a warning for you all-- if there is any further talking during my lesson in which you have not been called upon, you will come and join me at lunch time where you will discuss with me the meanings of ancient-day romantics. Okay class, please turn to page one-hundred and thirty four in your books. Today we will be discussing the modern-day romantics of Nicholas Sparks in his A Walk To Remember. I take it that all of you have read at least fifty pages past here, and we shall commence the discussion."
English seemed to drag on forever, but when the time finally came for us to go out to break, Derek cornered me on my way to my locker and handed me the criteria for his history essay.
"Better have it done by tomorrow, or else."
"Oh I'll have it done Derek, i'll have it handed in too," I replied with my own devilish smile.

I got to school early the next day to hand Derek's essay in. I hadn't actually done it, i plagiarised it on purpose. He thought he could push me around like that... sorry but i had better things to worry about.
I slipped the essay under his teacher's closed door and walked off.
It didn't take long for the gossip to go around when Derek's teacher read his essay. When he confronted me about it though... i wasn't exactly surprised about the outcome.
"How dare you plagiarise an essay about the Greek God's having sex. Thanks to you, i have to work off three months of lunch time detention plus a week of community service."
"I guess you've learnt your lesson then haven't you? Never make someone who doesn't take history do your dirty little deeds." This little comment landed me a punch in the jaw and i stumbled over from the impact of the hit. I spat out the blood that had formed in my mouth and rubbed my jawline.
"You little fuck." Before i could lunge at him, he had already beaten me to it.
I closed my eyes, waiting for the punches to be landed at my forehead. I was laying on the ground and there was a group of people surrounding us.
"Fight, fight, fight!" They chanted.
I pushed Derek off me but he was too strong. He started to swing at my face, one painful punch at a time.
I used the position he was in as an advantage and kneed him in the butt. He didn't even flinch, but he stopped long enough for me to get a few words in.
"Does all the anal make you prone to the pain in the butt?"
"Oooooohhhhhh." I heard the crowd say from behind me.
I heard April's voice then.
"Get your hands off my boyfriend. NOW!" Derek didn't even think twice before jumping off me and looking at April incredulously.
"He's your what?" April slapped him in the face and averted all her attention on me.
"Oh my God!" She said as I stood up and looked at her.
"I'll be fine." I said smiling.
She kissed my forehead and wiped away the blood.
"You better be," she replied.
In that moment, i was fine.
Until thirty seconds later when questions were being hammered at us. It was then i decided was good time to fall unconscious.
