I woke up the next couple of mornings to yet another text. April had suggested changing my phone number, but if it was that easy i would've done it ages ago.
My dad always seems to find me and i wasn't going to let him get to me that easily. I stood my ground for a while until i all but snapped.
Receiving what felt like the hundredth text got to me. I was in English and the bell rang for lunch. As i walked out to the cafeteria, i met April and my phone buzzed again.
"More texts?" She asked greeting me with a hug.
"It hasn't stopped." I said wrapping my arms around her with a sigh.
"C'mon, wanna skip school with me and spend the day around town?" She asked.
"Why?"
"You seem stressed, you need to take your mind off things. And plus, i need to go shopping for a dress," she replied.
"Shopping..."
"For a dress. Let's go."
"Ugh," i said as she dragged me away.
Two hours, six dresses and three pairs of shoes later, we were still at the shops.
"What do you even need a dress for anyway?" I asked through the door of the change room.
"Zip me up?" April emerged in a beautiful dark red evening dress. It was tight around the waist and then dropped, but it sat on her perfectly.
"Wow. I like this one. You should get it..." I said jaw-dropped.
"Well, why would i get such a beautiful dress for no reason?" she asked expectantly.
"But you said you needed a dress..." I trailed off.
"Ah, yes but the problem is I don't have a--"
She was interrupted by the buzz of my cell phone.
Looks like someone forgot about the spring ball, didn't they?"
I didn't get it, was he playing the good or bad guy?
"Date for the spring ball," I finished for her.
"I'm sorry, with everything going on lately, i totally forgot. Would you like accompany me to the dance?" I asked.
"I'd love to," she replied with a smile.
I placed a kiss on her forehead.
Grabbing her hands, i looked her in the eyes and said, "April, I'm sorry i'm dragging you into my mess of a life, but words can't describe how grateful i am for you. You're the most beautiful girl in the world. If anything happens to you i can only blame myself... because with love comes danger and I love you April." I've been trying to say that for a while now, and i didn't know how to. So i just did.
I honestly didn't expect a reply from her so when i got one, i was quite surprised.
"I can look after myself Rob. We're in this together remember?" She looked down shyly and i tucked a piece of hair behind her ear and carefully lifted her chin up.
"What is it?" I asked.
"I love you too," she whispered.
I placed a slow, soft kiss on her lips. She responded with a passionate kiss and i felt myself smile.
She wrapped her arms around my shoulders and i wrapped mine around her waist. She deepened the kiss until we were interrupted by the sales assistant.
"That is quite a lovely dress, it goes perfectly with your skin tone!" She said excitedly.
April and I sprung apart, although i was still holding her hand.
"Would you like to purchase it?" She asked,
April looked at me, "what do you think Rob?" She asked.
"Yes!" I replied.
Around five, April had dropped me off at home and i walked in to find my mum eating dinner alone.
"Hey sweetie, how was your day?" she asked as i set my tuxedo bag on the table.
"Amazing! April and I are going to the spring dance and i bought myself a tuxedo. It's a normal black and white one but my tie is the same colour as April's dress," I said with a wide grin on my face.
"That's great honey! I'm so happy for you," mum replied.
I sat down with mum and we ate dinner together and had a nice, long talk.
Nothing could have ruined how perfect today was. I looked at my switched off phone as i climbed into bed and smiled.
That bastard couldn't hurt me if i didn't give him the chance.
The next day i woke up and got ready for school with a big smile on my face. April took longer than usual to pick me up so i finally turned my phone on.
I had six missed calls from April, as well as a text.
Rob, I think he's got me. I don't know where I am, but i know you'll find me.
My heart stopped when i read that text. He couldn't hurt me, but he could hurt April. And he knew perfectly well that was worse than anything he could do to me.
