When Edwin opened his eyes something was different. He looked over to see Wendy hadn't woken up yet. When he started to get up he felt different. He felt more whole. Peaceful and dazed. Probably from waking up. Edwin looked outside to see the sunsetting, he would have to leave soon if here were to make it home by 9.
He heard a small gasp and turned around to see Wendy stretching and scratching her hair which was falling loose now. "Well it seems like we were in there for 4 hours. Time is tricky to tell in the simulator, you can be in for a second or years," she said.
"I need to get back home, before my mom worries," he said. Wendy nodded her head and walked him out of the attic. But something felt off to Edwin. He couldn't place his finger on it but what was it?
Suddenly he remembered an old saying that the sunrises in the east and sets in the west. He hasn't been watching the sun set, he had been watching it rise.
"Beautiful sunset," Wendy said.
"That's not a sunset, it's a sunrise," Edwin said stopping at the stair case. She looked back at him perplexed but then looked down and started to mumble.
"We were in their for four hours....but if the sun is rising....then we were really in their for FOURTEEN HOURS!"
With that Edwin grabbed her hand and dashed down the stairs. He grabbed his backpack at the base, almost out the door when a voice stopped him.
"Where are you going?"
He turned around to see Oswald there in a white bathrobe reading a book.
"I have to go to my family they don't know where I am."
Oswald looked at him, then turned to Wendy.
"You didn't notify the parents?"
"I didn't think we would be gone that long!"
Oswald turned back to both of them, grabbed his cane, put down his book and started walking. For an old looking man he was walking really fast. He went out the door and Edwin followed the man instantly.
He watched Wendy go ahead of him to walk next to Oswald. "I didn't know we were in the simulation that long!"
"Yes, well I understand that. But young lady please understand that I am disappointed with you greatly."
He watched Wendy slow down and soon enough she was walking behind them. He felt bad for her, he never liked to see anyone get hurt.
Quickly they reached the road. Oswald stuck out his hand, and Edwin heard the familiar sound of the train. He saw it coming around the corner and was instantly at their sides. Immediately Wendy and Edwin stepped into the train following Oswald.
Edwin got lost in thought while Oswald went to punch in the code. He was terrified of what his mother would say once he got home.
