"No, please I don't want to get caught up in this," he said,"I don't mean to cause trouble Mindy."
"It's Wendy," she said with a straight face.
"Right, Wendy, I won't say anything, you can take the book, just don't kill me or my family."
Wendy looked taken back,"Kill you? Why would I do that?"
"Well you kidnapped me and asked for the book-"
"Yeah because we didn't know if you were, you know."
He looked at her confused. As a what?
She must have had a moment of realization looking at his face,"right your still new to this. Listen I will explain everything trust me just let me talk to you." She seemed so sincere that it was hard for Edwin not to believe her.
"Fine," he said and continued his walk to school.
He heard footsteps behind him, and watch as she came up right beside him. "Where are you going," she asked.
"It's Wednesday."
"Yeah and your not wearing pink."
"No I mean school," he said.
She looked at him, then looked down at a silver pocket watch with an intricate design of a tree that was connected to her jeans. Opening it she took one look and instantly made a face.
"Alright, we have to go if we want to catch the train." He looked at her and made a mental note that this girl was crazy. There wasn't a train station for another 50 miles. But he didn't want to cause any mental problems if there were any in case she really did kill him. So he decided to play along.
"Ok, where is this train?"
She grabbed his hand and quickly took off in a run. They ran in the same direction as the school but somewhere along the way she turned.
They had ran for about 5 minutes by the time she finally slowed down. He crashed onto the ground, completely worn out. His 15 year old body had barely any muscle, making it hard for him to fun with a backpack full of things for 5 minutes. Even Wendy herself seemed tired, bending over and resting her palms at here knees.
She looked up once more, and grabbed Edwin's hand, pulling him up on his feet. "It's almost here."
"Right this train. Tell me what does it look like?"
She looked at him, and instantly her eyes light up like a child on Christmas. "It looks just like a subway from New York, only it can take you anywhere you want. It has beautiful seats and there used to be bell hoppers that would bring you foods and all sorts of delicacies."
But just like that her eyes began to sadden. "At least they used to."
Just then she turned her head and took five steps forward. Holding out her dainty fingered hand as if she was waiting for a high five from someone.
At this point, Edwin knew she was beyond hope. He slowly started to sneak away as he watched Wendy just stand there. Then he heard it. What sounded like a crossover of a car trying to start up and a railroad. He turned around to face Wendy and saw her smiling in the distance.
He turned to where she was gazing and gasped. On the horizon, coming at what had to be full steam was a subway train. It stopped right next to Wendy only inches from her hand, which was still pointed outward.
Wendy looked at him and smiled, as the doors opened. He couldn't believe it. She walked to him as she saw he couldn't move out of shock with his mouth gaping open. Her eyes made contact with his and saw the evidence of a smirk that screamed I-told-you-so.
"Have you ever had a raspberry milkshake?"
