Jay pulled the coat over his arms. The new, crisp tuxedo, Dawn had chosen for him for tonight was snug and in place. He checked his reflection out in the mirror. He had to admit, he looked seductive and smart. The lazy smile on his face just added more appeal to his already stunning appearance. His dark hair was blown over in a heroic style and looked striking enough to have had any male model die for that face. He grinned at his thoughts and his eyes glinted with exhilaration.
He walked to the cabinet at the rear end of his room and picked up the red velvet box placed on it. He pulled the cover open to reveal an alluring ring. It was the one he had ordered to be made from Cartier and it had been most intricately designed. The platinum band was sophisticatedly curving around the two ends, the mid of which was shimmering with a single large diamond. It was beautiful. He knew that. And he had picked it especially for the occasion since he knew.....Dawn preferred ethereal things.
Pocketing the ring box and the rose, he once again checked the reservation number he had made at a large restaurant to dine in after the ball. He had considered asking the waiters to drop the ring in Dawn's drink and then sit back and enjoy her reaction, but then it occurred to him. So many people did it that way now. Maybe the best would be going down on his knees and proposing her that way. It would be heavenly. He had not practiced what he would be saying but he was confident. He knew it would not be difficult. He would just say what had been bursting to come out of his heart for days. Simple and facile. No chances of error.
Tonight was going to be magical. Yet, something unmistakably nagged him in some corner of his mind for the tiniest instant of time. In spite of everything he had planned for the night, Jay had a feeling. A dire feeling. A bad omen. Tonight was not going to go as he had planned it to. Something was going to go wrong. He depended a lot on his intuition or as other called it- the sixth sense. It was fifth to him. But today, he did not just want to believe in it. Anything may go wrong except Dawn saying 'no' to me! He thought. A minute later, he had to laugh at his own desperation, walking out of the front door.
Praying everything would proceed smoothly all the same, he made his way outside. The night was starry and clear, the clouds of the earlier night having vanished. Though it was usually misty during evenings, today was a departure from the customary climate. Even the weather seemed to be celebrating with Jay. Whistling cheerfully to suppress the unpleasant thought flooding into his mind every now and then, Jay sat in his car, turned the key in ignition and was on his way to pick Dawn up...... Only hours away from the greatest success he would be ever having. His heart was smacking against the cage and he could feel thrill shooting like electricity in his body. Just a few hours.... And then, he would have Dawn forever in his life. She was his other half.... The one he had been waiting for his whole life. Never before had Jay felt himself so hopelessly in love with someone.
