The outside world, illustrated a complete and exquisite sight. Twilight, Jay's favourite part of the entire day, had just begun to fall. The inky gray sky above him was turning a lighter shade of a darker blue colour. Stars, tiny and countless, littered the sky above him. The clouds of the earlier day seemed to have vanished completely. A magnificent crescent dominated the centre of the sky. The chimneys around were sending up slightly gray puffs of smoke up into the darkness of the night.
The car door closing with a thud bought him back to the present. He pulled his head down back into the car, realizing what a fool he must have been looking, star gazing, lost in a world of Nothingness. He took a deep breath to conceal the blood rushing into his face and turned to face Dawn. She looked striking but the only thing that didn't go with her looks was a frown she had on her face as she surveyed Jay. Jay suddenly turned self conscious and followed her eyes.
'What?'
Dawn reached for his hand, a little hesitantly but then squeezed it and looked up at him.
'Are you Okay?'
Jay shrugged and smiled. Her concern touched him as much as her touch did.
'Oh yeah, me? I am great! I was just... I was...'
Dawn smiled and gave a gentle squeeze to his hand.
'No. It's okay. You don't have to explain. You just had a vacant expression on your face.'
Jay shook his head, still feeling like an idiot.
'Yeah, I am bit dreamy.'
Dawn winked and bit her lower lips to conceal her amusement.
'Aren't we all? Anyways what are we doing tonight?'
Jay nodded and then after carefully considering it, he answered.
'I guess we can hang around or go to a movie and then dinner. What do you think?'
Dawn looked down at her watch and then grinned.
'We have time. How about both? Let's go back to your place and hang out and then we can go for a movie.'
Jay considered this.
'Great idea, Dawn!'
Jay cruised over to his place. He loved to do that. He didn't believe in cautious driving. What's the point of driving like a slow maniac? There was fun when there was adventure. Two years back he had gone on a trek over the polar caps. He had loved the experience of dangling over what seemed an endless pit and sharp rocks jutting about. Exploration and adventure was what made his everyday boring life really entertaining.
As soon as they reached over at his place, Jay led her to his penthouse roof. It had been most intricately designed. In fact, Jay learned later that his dad had hired the famous Australian designer, A.L. Mungo, to design the entire house. The penthouse was not only exotic, with the interiors containing a whole bedroom, a spa and a bar of drinks, while the exterior was furnished with a variety of fresh, magnificent flowers from around the world. The flora of the surrounding was something which taught them to remain young at heart and live each day to the fullest.
The penthouse, since it was the tallest building around, offered a breathtaking view of the surroundings. It was as if you were in a space craft, floating. The sensation was marvellous. If you stood on the roof, you could see miles away. Thus, the roof also presented an outlook of the broken bridge they had been to a few days back. Jay felt as it Dawn was a bit too shaken. Hence he hadn't since, mentioned that topic to her. Maybe she was afraid of ghosts. Looking at Dawn, he wondered what would have been Mia's reaction at the superstitious story Janice had told them. She would have probably snorted at her face and tormented her with her laughter. That was what Mia was like.
