The Revealing

I woke up in the middle of the night to the sound of my phone vibrating. I looked at it and it was a text message from Jones. It read "There's a fire on 4th and 12th,I could use your help to rescue people." I turned my head and looked at Rosa sleeping comfortably. So I got up quietly, got dressed and flew out the window. I was gently soaring in the sky, not even rushing though there were people trapped in a burning building. I remembered that Jones said he wanted me to help save people. I thought about covering my face, but there was no time and I was too tired from my operation. So I kept on going.
I arrived at the scene and there were at least 3 building completely on fire. I flew down to meet the the Chief firefighter and he recognized me as a top officer. His men were working on the middle building. I told him that I'll go to the other two and look for people.
I flew as fast as lighting into the first building. There were metal support beams tilting and bending. I heard a lady screaming over the roar of the flames. I rushed to find her. She was trapped in a corner. Luckily there was metal around her. I used my magnetic abilities and began moving some of the rubble. I motioned her to come to me. After she made it, a beam fell in front of us and broke through the floor. I grabbed her and ran towards the window I flew in. I covered us with a magnetic shield so things would just float above our heads as they fell near us. I jumped out the window and we landed on the ground. She ran towards to officer. I could see the Chief staring at me in disbelief.
I rushed back in to find more people. They were everywhere, about five different people on all four floors. I quickly got them out before the building would explode. After every person, more firefighters would stare at me witnessing my powers. I didn't care, lives were in danger. The last building was the tallest and the worst. The fire was in the middle of the building going downwards. The chief called me to him.
"If you can save the people in the bottom, then we'll go for the ones at top." He said. I nodded and rushed in. I grabbed the first three and took them outside. The men used their ladder to reach the top. When they were going to the roof, the ladder stopped for some reason. I rushed out to see and the building started shaking. It was going to collapse. I could have flew up there to save that person, but there were still people at the bottom. So I shot a line of electricity at the ladders power box and it began moving up rapidly. I didn't look to see if they made it or not, I just rushed back in.
I led more people out to safety. I thought it as everyone until a woman on the outside began asking about her son. I flew back in and found him trapped under a mattress with beams on it. I quickly moved the metal and the mattress. The building began falling. I used my powers to hold all the metal up above us. I told the boy to run through the fire, but he was too scared to. That's when things took a turn for the worse. I was shocked by a fuse box. It was being overloaded and was going to explode. I began yelling at the boy to run, but he never moved. I didn't know how I was going to get him through the fire, keep the weight of the toppling building above us, and stop this explosion from happening. I had no plan.
Good luck came when the Chief ran inside. He saw the boy, and saw me holding the weight of the whole building up. He nodded at me, took the kid and ran out. I was on my knees with my hands above my head at that point. I turned and looked at the fuse box. It was going to blow. I thought an explosion would possibly kill all the people we just saved. So I let the weight fall and I ran to the box. It began to explode, but I saw it in slow motion. I absorbed all the energy it was releasing into my body. I could feel myself getting trapped. Then I just collapsed.
When I woke up,I was at the hospital. There were people in my room. Rosalin, Jones, the firefighter chief, and Dr. Roberts. "How did I get here?" I asked. Rosa began crying softly. Jones and the Chief began to explain everything they saw.
"Once the building came down and you never came out, all of our men went digging for you. We even had to call a crane to come pick up the metal beams and move them. We couldn't find you, until that boy noticed a shape in the rubble. After almost everything was moved, there was an odd shape. A certain area of the rubble as being propped up. We ran and began searching there. We found you, but we couldn't touch you. You had this magnetic field around you. You protected yourself after you collapsed. We had to wait for 3hrs just for your body to let you know that it's safe."
"There was going to be an explosion." I began saying. "I absorbed it into my body and passed out." I said. Dr Roberts spoke up before walking out "You better be lucky you had me do that operation kid." I nodded. The chief shook my hand and said "I'm glad there's someone with abilities like yours around." Then he left. Jones touched my chest, which made me uncomfortable and he left. Rosa smiled and left the room and I smiled back. Before I could slowly fall back asleep my eyes yet closed, there was an explosion in the hospital.
