Chapter 16

Eddie POV:

I stalked down the stairs, past James who lied on the couch with his phone and Seamus who was fast asleep on the blow-out mattress, towards the kitchen. I opened the refrigerator harshly and pulled out a bottle of beer.

I rummaged through drawers, looking for a bottle opener, until I came across one to open my beer.

I tipped it back and chugged, the alcohol going straight to my head.

I need another, I thought as I grabbed another.

Aleks just pissed me off so fucking much sometimes and a beer was the only thing to calm my nerves. What was his deal? Why couldn’t he just cool it and do things sometimes? It was so easy to just say things without it being complicated for me but, with Aleks, he thought too much about them.

That was the big difference between us that I’d never get over.

“Eddie?” James asked.

I squinted through my tears and the darkness of night to see him sitting up on the couch and looking over at me from the back of it.

“What is it James? Did I wake you?”

“No,” he said, “I was awake. But you sure seem angry. Care to share?” he asked.

Through the haziness of my thoughts I thought why the fuck not?

I nodded and walked over to him, my second beer still in hand.

“So what is troubling you, Sly?” he asked as I sat down beside him.

I suddenly realized that this was the perfect opportunity to tell James. Aleks wasn’t here to stop me and it’s not like he would object. As long as he didn’t have to do a goddamn thing he would be cool with it. He’d owe me, though.

“I have a confession to make, James,” I said.

“Oh really? Goody. I hope it’s exciting,” he encouraged and I laughed.

“So remember a few months back when we talked on Skype late one night and I asked you a hypothetical question about relationships? It was on a girl?”

“Oh, yeah. Never did hear how that went. So what about it?”

“Well, you gave me the advice to become her best friend, and I said that I already was, and then you said to try to get out of the friend zone and then convince her to break up with her boyfriend.”

“Yeah. I remember it all, Eddie. What’s wrong then?”

“Well, recently, I kissed her, and now we’re a thing—we’re a couple,” I breathed, dazed just thinking of Aleks. Even when he angered me his radiance still managed to catch up with me. “We are so happy together and I love him with all of my heart and soul—“

“Wait; him? You mean her, right?”

I gave a small laugh, shaking my head, “Nope, James. I mean him. His name is Aleks, or ImmortalHD, if you prefer, and I am absolutely in love with him.”
