A few hours went by and I was completely lost in my thoughts, being lulled even deeper into them by the gentle rocking of the ship by the time Edmund found me. He rapped softly three times before pushing the door to mine and Lucys room open a bit, asking for permission to come in, which I quickly granted. "Did you know that Ione gets her abilities from her mother?"
"Does she?" Edmund hummed, cocking his head to the side.
I nodded. "Yes, she said her mothers name is Maleficent. Apparently she resides somewhere called the Enchanted Forest." He said nothing, not seeing the point I was trying to make clear. "Don't you see? She's from a different world! Does that not... effect you in any way?"
"No." He replied automatically. "It is interesting, but I guess i'm not looking at it the same way you are. Narnia is a different world from our own, so why can't there be others beyond this one? You know, the rest of our allies are not from Narnia."
I sat back up straight, my eyes widening with joy. "Our job is to retrieve them. So what you're saying is-"
"We have to go to their worlds to retrieve them," He filled in. "and our next stop happens to be the Enchanted Forest."
"But wait." I shook my head. "How do we get there exactly? We've come to Narina through many different things, I through a magical painting, you and your family through a train station wall and a wardrobe, wouldn't that mean we need a set thing or location?"
"Not necessarily." A male voice called from the door way." Pardon the interruption. Shall I come back at a better time?"
"No." Edmund motioned for Professor Digory to join us, waving his hand and smiling brightly. "Please."
"I assumed-" The professor trailed off as he sat down in between Edmund and I. "That now would be a good time to finally tell you my story and how I fit in with Narnia and its history."
We both nodded quickly, looking up at him with eager eyes as he smiled and began his story. "It all started one day when I was just a boy..."
•Flash back•
"Digory!" The boys shrill uncle called as he stumbled down the staircase to the marble floors below, ramming into him harshly and grasping his shoulders. His stale breath fanned out across the boys face and his hands felt clammy against the boys shoulders, seeping through the button up shirt a bit. "Come, I've something to show!"
" Andrew!" A woman's voice called from the top of the stairway with her hands planted firmly on her apron covered hips, a scowl on her face. "Brother, you let that boy be. Digory, go play outside. I'll fetch you once dinner is ready."
"Yes Aunt Letty." Digory replied, prying his Uncles hands off of his shoulders and watching for a moment as the drunk man stumbled, leaning against the wall for support.
He turned and quickly closed the door behind him as his aunt began to scold his uncle. The brightness of the sun contrasted sharply with the darkness in the house causing the boy to squint and shield his eyes with his hand.
A small voice across the yard caught his attention, drawing him towards it until he was standing on one of the bricks that lined the garden against the wooden fence, peering over into the next yard, immediately spotting a girl his age.
"Who are you?" She asked suddenly, frowning in confusion. "I didn't know there were children in that house."
"There aren't, just me. My mothers fallen ill so I've been staying with my aunt and uncle. My names Digory. What's yours?"
"Polly." The small girl rose to her feet, dusting off her messy white sundress and holding her chin up high. "Polly Plummer. Would you like to play?"
