(Emmys POV)
"Ed!" I called, chasing after him. I caught up to him quickly, snagging his arm and spinning him around to face me. "As much as I want to talk about whats wrong so I can help, Peter says we need to go now."
He scoffed, shrugging me off of him gently. "Of course he does, and what Peter wants, Peter gets."
"Okay, whats your problem with him all of a sudden?" I asked, jutting my right hip out and placing my hands on my waist.
He shook his head, brushing past me and heading back out on deck where a small group consisting of Trumpkin, Lucy, Susan, Caspian, Maggie, and Peter was forming around the Professor. I watched in silence as Peter accepted one of the golden rings, looking a bit surprised as the professor handed the other one to Edmund.
Susan, Lucy, and Maggie joined Peter, while Trumpkin, Caspian, and I joined Edmund. We all counted down from five quietly, grasping the rings at the same time. I felt a tightness in my chest as my body felt squeezed for a few seconds before landing on my knees in the middle of a yellow brick road.
The area was completely picturesque with a brightly colored cornfield to the left and a massive forest to the right. The sky seemed to be painted a pink color with a few splashes of orange from the setting sun that had just begun its decent behind the cotton candy like clouds. I rose to me feet, laughing to myself as the bricks below me shimmered in the sunlight as if they were unevenly sculpted from gold.
"Its so beautiful." Lucy sighed, taking everything in.
"Look." Susan pointed suddenly. I followed her finger and held in a gasp as my eyes landed on the enormous castle standing at the end of the road in the distance. Large white spikes rose up from the top, piercing the clouds, acting like an invisible gate to keep something in, or out. Not much else could be seen, as the castle was too far away, other than the color. The off white that coated the entirety of the castle distinctly stood out against the vibrant colors of everything else around us, sending an odd feeling down my spine.
I unconsciously shifted closer to Edmund, wrapping my hand around his arm and smiling a bit as he wrapped an arm around my waist, pulling me closer. "We should go check it out." Edmund exclaimed, breaking the silence.
"No." Peter replied. "We should stay here and come up with a plan."
"We're not raiding them, Peter." Edmund replied, the exasperation clearly evident in his voice as he spoke. "We're looking for an ally."
"It is getting late." I offered, adding a bit of emphases on the word 'is', and feeling Edmunds grip on me tighten.
"Even more reason to wait until tomorrow. We should start setting up camp. Caspian, go with Susan and collect some fire wood. Edmund-"
"No." Edmund interrupted. "Im going now. If you want to sleep out here in the middle of the road go right ahead."
He looked to me, silently begging me to go with him with his eyes. I couldnt hold back a tiny laugh at the grin that spread across his face as I intertwined our fingers. "I agree. Waiting is pointless. All we're going to do is talk, and last time I checked we all remember how to do that just fine."
Peter glared at us for a few moments before speaking. "Anyone else?"
"I'll go." Trumpkin nodded, stepping forward, followed by Caspian, and then, much to everyones surprise, Lucy.
"Lu?" Peter frowned at his little sister.
"Sorry." She mumbled, looking at her feet. "Edmund knows what he's doing. He's been handling things here without any help just fine."
There was a brief moment of thick silence that hung in the air before Peter spoke. "Alright. Ed, lead the way."
I smiled up at Edmund as he held himself a bit taller, turning and heading down the path towards the castle. "Thank you." He whispered, leaning down and brushing his lips against my cheek.
"I'll always follow you." I whispered back. "Even if I do think its possible your plan could turn out to be completely idiotic."
He laughed, pulling me closer, unintentionally ignoring the odd screeching noise coming from behind us.
