"I owe that girl everything," Natalia murmured gratefully as Thomas showed her the note after directing Natalia to bed.

Jamie insisted on bathing himself, but came to their bed in pajamas to eat the reheated dish Cat made with Natalia.

"Jamie, I'm going to have two babies. I got sick this afternoon because I wasn't taking care of us," Natalia explained gently to Jamie who was curled up at her side.

"Sometimes scary things happen to our bodies, and there's not a reason. Like when you have a cold, or a nosebleed. Thomas and I love you so much, darling, thank you for being so strong today," she said kissing his head again, to which he shifted his position onto her midsection, like a koala. She held him there for several minutes while he breathed in and out carefully.

"Will I have to go?" he said quietly.

"What do you mean darling?" she asked confused.

"When the babies come, will I have to go?" he repeated, "I'm not your tummy baby, I'm your heart baby." He said echoing something Natalia told him to explain Tanya and Marco's absence.

"I'm never letting go of you, heart baby," Natalia said finally understanding his question, "My tummy babies will never ever replace you. Having three babies is better than one. Jamie, look at me," Natalia said propping his face up on her hand, "Your parents accident was tragic, but you have so many people who love you so much. Me, Thomas, all four of your grandparents, we would do anything for you."

"I love you, tummy babies," Jamie murmured into her abdomen after putting his head down.

"They love you too, Jameson," Natalia said kissing his head again, "Now off to bed, with you."

Thomas stood silently at the door watching the entire interaction, and offered his hand to Jamie as he trotted to him, and walked him to his room.

Natalia sighed deeply and fluffed the pillows around her not feeling tired at all.

Thomas appeared in the room again, and closed the door quietly behind him.

"Hi," Natalia said noticing the grim expression on his face, "Are you alright?"

He took two steps and shook his head, "That, this, what happened today? That can't happen again." He said sitting down at the foot of the bed and putting his head in his hands.

"Natalia, they wouldn't let me see you. I felt so stupid and guilty when I missed your call, what if Cat hadn't responded, what if I came home to find you here alone and d—"

"Don't say it," Natalia said feeling a lump rise to her throat. She hadn't even considered Thomas' feelings about the days events.

"What? Dead? Natalia you were in the hospital and I couldn't do anything. Do you have any idea how helpless I felt, you were just laying there, God," Thomas said exasperatedly.

"You know I do," Natalia said darkly, earning a stare from Thomas, "You know that I know exactly what that feeling is like," She said referencing the death of her sister.

"Natalia—"

"No. What happened today was an accident. A freak occurrence. And I'm fine," she said sighing and taking a sip of water.

"Natalia, I want to marry you." Thomas said facing away from her.

"What?" Natalia asked dumbfounded by the turn in conversation.

"I'm not going through this again. Your parents acting like carrier pigeons from your hospital room to me, when they don't even speak German is not something I want to experience again. Me telling Jamie you were fine and not knowing if that was a lie or not, is not something I want to do again. Raising Jamie and the babies without you married to me is not a thing I want to do. Living without you as my wife, is not something I'm interested in" he explained walking over to her side of the bed slowly. He carefully got down on one knee, after pulling out a velvet box from his pocket and presenting a ring to Natalia.

"Marry me," he said simply, a small trace of a smile visible on his lips.

Natalia didn't respond but moved closer to the edge of the bed and kissed him carefully and slowly, from her precarious angle.

"Okay," she said seriously, looking at Thomas, who finally smiled for the first time since getting home.

"When did you have the time to find a ring," she said under her breath as Thomas maneuvered the diamond onto her finger. It glittered in the light of her bedside table, and Natalia held Thomas' head as he lay down next to her, throwing an arm over her midsection.

"A few weeks ago," Thomas muttered into her chest.

"Before Bastian's comment?" Natalia wondered, running her fingers through his hair.

"Mhm," Thomas responded, tightening his grip around her and sighing deeply

They lay like this for several more minutes before Thomas sat up suddenly on his knees.

"Tell me what I can do to help you," he said staring at her face.

"What?" Natalia asked confused by his sudden turn of heart.

"You've had to raise Jamie more or less alone for the least four years. I get it, you're used to doing things on your own. You've always been a go getter and independent, but you're also controlling. But this, you don't have to do on your own, let me help you. Tell me what to do," he said taking her hand in his, "Like today, the groceries? I can do things like that."

Natalia nodded, pulling him back down on the bed and kissing him gently.

"Okay," she said smiling.

"Okay, what?"

"Help me," she said kissing him again, and moving to climb on top of him. She ran her hands up to his neck, and smiled into the kiss, as he moved his hands from her thighs to her waist. She let one of her hands move down to the hem of his shirt but suddenly he grabbed her hand and froze.

"You're not resting," he said in a husky voice, moving her back to her side of the bed and helping her under the covers.

"The doctor told me to relax!" Natalia protested weakly as Thomas tucked her in.

"Yes by sleeping, you Minx," Thomas joked, kissing her forehead.

Natalia let out a deep sigh, and allowed Thomas to turn out her bedside table light. Before he was able to go around to his side of the bed and get in, Natalia was already fast asleep.

Thenext few days were fairly uneventful for Natalia. When Thomas left in themorning, he dropped off Jamie at school, and her mother came over to take careof her—which mostly was just to make sure that she wasn't on her feet too much.
