By the fourth day Natalia could feel herself going crazy.

"Thomas, you have to get me out of this bed," she told him after her mother left, and Jamie was left to his own devices in front of the TV in the living room.

"Do you want to move to the living room?" he asked glancing up at her from where he was packing a suitcase—the team was going away for the weekend. Initially Thomas didn't want to go, and but Natalia insisted on maintaining some sense of normalcy. While her parents' presence was appreciated, she wasn't sure how to handle being taken care of after so many years of doing everything herself.

"No Tommo, I need to leave this apartment, just for a little while," she said exasperatedly, leaning against her fortress of cushions, "I need sunlight, sunlight is relaxing," she suggested raising her eyebrows suggestively.

Thomas looked at her for a moment before nodding his head in agreement.

"Jamie, put on your shoes, we're taking Natalia to the park for a few minutes!" he called into the living room.

"You, stay put," he said pointing his finger at Natalia who was grinning broadly and moved to stand up.

After lacing up his own shoes, Thomas picked up Natalia bridal style.

"You're joking," she said realizing he intended on carrying her to the way to the park, which was only a block away but still ridiculous.

"Jamie, will you get the doors? Natalia wants to go outside, but she won't be walking," he said in a joyous tone to the boy, who giggled and ran ahead of them to open the door and escort them downstairs.

Natalia rested helplessly in Thomas' arms as Jamie chattered about his day at school in the elevator. She leaned against her boyfriends—fiancés chest and smiled when she heard his heartbeat. She took a deep breath as the sunlight hit her face, and wind played in her slightly matted hair.

There better be no one taking pictures of us...

Thomas' relationship with Natalia had fallen off the radar of interested parties—mostly people were focused on the fairy tale love story that was Erik and Cat's relationship. After the accident the paparazzi was respectful enough to give Natalia her distance, and moving away from Germany for several years certainly helped. Thomas decided to take a break from international duty for a few games, and the regular season was over for the summer. Natalia met Joachim Löw at the last World Cup, and he seemed interested in the fact that she was the nutritionist for two high profile teams—he actually suggested that she join the international team in passing, but Natalia laughed off his comment.

Now Natalia focused on staying perched in Thomas' arms. He walked them to the bench near the jungle gym where Jamie took off to swing from the monkey bars.

"You know, soon we'll be outnumbered," she murmured as they sat on a park bench watching Jamie swing.

Thomas looked unnerved for a moment but let out a deep breath slowly, "Well maybe that's okay. We do okay with Jamie." he said turning to smile at her, "I'd like to adopt him."

"I know you're officially his guardian," he said noticing the shocked look on her face, "But if we're getting married it makes sense. I'm not going anywhere." Natalia nodded, kissing him slowly, before hearing Jamie's disgusted sound effects and laughing into the kiss.

"Can we tell my parents together?" he said seriously, "I know things are weird for you, but this is the kind of thing that should come from both of us."

Natalia only met Thomas' parents, Klaudia and Gerhard a handful of times. Their knowledge of English was minimal, and she was unable to communicate with them as much as she would like. There was so much Natalia wanted to share with them—she could tell they always compared her to Lisa...

She could hardly blame Thomas for their lack of communication too, it wasn't their fault they couldn't understand one another.

Natalia nodded and sighed. After sitting outside for several more hours, they walked back to Thomas' apartment and settled down, but Natalia couldn't help but shake the unforgiving feeling that Thomas' parents weren't exactly going to be thrilled.
