Before I knew it, I was on my feet, being pushed towards the door, but this time, not willingly.
"I'm sorry, Mrs. Calse. But I can be of no service. I remember nothing." He said, his voice stern compared to the softness I heard before. He sounded serious. He sounded strong. But his strength in tone isn't stronger than my strength in faith and hope.
"Officer Lain, please." I pleaded, digging my heels into the ground just as I came close to the doorway, I swirled around and faced him, my eyebrows creasing together, adding to my pleading and desperate look. My eyes met his again. Brainfart. The gold. The blue.
STOP IT.
"Mrs. Calse, I beg of you, you have to leave." He said more calmly, keeping his gaze down on my own. "These events you want me to speak o-"
"I don't want you to speak of them." I interrupted, my arms crossing so I was hugging my torso tightly in fear. I shouldn't have interrupted a police officer. I shouldn't interrupt anyone. "I just want you to tell me how I can find the destination of the attacks, the closest areas. That's all I need. And I'll be out of your way. I swear."
The silence returned, leaving an uneasy feeling in my stomach by the way he just stared at me. But also hope. Hope maybe he was seeing past the red hair that was attached to my scalp. Maybe he w as finally seeing pa-
"No." He said, this time, he pushed himself out into the hall, I stood frozen. Confused. Interested. I follow him as quickly as possible down the hall.
"Why?" I ask, the stone in my throat had shrunken, but my voice was still strained from the feeling. The strain hurt like hell. It must've been enough to hit him as well because he actually stopped and slowly turned to face me.
"Mrs. Calse. I'm an expandable man. But this I cannot do. I'm sorry." He said simply, his hands clasped behind his back as he looked down at me.
"I'll give you money. I'll pay you." I said quickly before he took another step away from me. "Please, the thing I love most is there somewhere. I need it. It's the only reminder of my true self. Without it... I've been lost. Just..." I sighed, stopped and lowered my head as I shut my eyes tightly. "I'll do anything. You name it and I'll do it."
I took a moment then looked up at him, my eyes meeting his. I was desperate. I saw he saw that about my gaze. "Fine." He finally said.
I broke into a faint smile then nodded, my heart starting up once again. "Thank you, Officer Lain." I said quietly.
"Dillan." He said as he turned, gesturing for me to follow. I raised an eyebrow.
"What?" I asked.
"Call me Dillan. That's my name." He said simply, causing my confusion to disappear from my expression. He smiled as he looked at me over his shoulder. "I hope your not afraid of flying. There'll be a lot of it."
