It was a long night. None of us were happy with the amount of light sources available to our usage. That was until we made it to the building of the terrorists. We were disguised as people who went out as spies I supposed. They checked our pockets and then let us past and into the checkpoint where we showed our undercover ID cards. From there, we were sent down a hall of rooms, close to the cell rooms apparently.
At the end of that hall was two large wooden doors with two guards on either side. I walked behind my two partners, who stood tall and spoke Russian whenever needed. I was like a backpack. Silent. But filled with secrets and information. I was small, too. At least compared to everyone else I've seen. We were lucky that we haven't been asked to remove our hats.
"Adgar." One of my partners asked, the one with the faint camouflaged patterned jacket. One of the guards, one with a dark and long beard nodded then knocked on the door, keeping his eyes on us before he twisted the doorknob and pushed it back slightly. The morning sunlight from the window with satin drapes made the room vibrant. A desk with papers and pencils scattered across the surface, an armoury of guns behind it, and three glass windows, as if he wasn't hiding anything from anyone.
And then, there he was. His dark eyes fixated on the paper he was writing on. He then looked up as I walked in with my partners, keeping my place behind them, almost invisible.
"You've returned." He said as he set his pencil down. "Successful I hope."
Surprising. He was speaking English. Strange as well.
"Yes." My partner said, keeping his hands clasped in front of him, I looked up at his shoulder muscles as they tensed, showing profoundly through his faintly camouflaged patterned jacket.
"Good. Now go to your dorms." He said simply, no expression was in his eyes. It was just dark. Full of secrets. My partners both nodded and turned, taking their place in between the door and I, walking out. I went to follow before he spoke.
"Not you." He said darkly, which caused a tremble to travel up my spine. The syringes, the screaming, the daily checkups. Everything came back to me. I slowly turned and faced him, keeping my head slightly lowered, my eyes shadowed. "I don't remember having a ginger in our squad."
"There's many people, Sir." I said quietly, trying my best to keep my voice at a low pitch to give the impression I was a man. But it was hard, for I trembled in fear. "Many hats as well."
"Yes. But there's no woman other than members of the adopted, who don't come in here unless asked." He said, I watched his torso as he stood, I didn't dare to meet his eyes.
"I'm no woman, Sir." I said, trying to get my voice to go deeper, but it was tiring.
"No need to try that pitch, Dear." He said simply as I watched his feet, getting closer and closer to me. "No man has such curves. But if this is because you want to fight for the good side, I can respect that. But everyone earns their place here."
I swallowed hard, closing my eyes as he stood inches away from me, I could feel his eyes looking at my form like daggers. I then felt his thumb touch under my chin, lifting my head up. I opened my eyes then looked up, reluctantly meeting his eyes with my own. I tightened my jaw in fear.
"I know those eyes." He said darkly, moved his thumb up and skimmed my cheekbone. He then moved his hand away. I kept my head in place then swallowed hard once again. "I look forwards to seeing you..."
"Dani. Dani Yate." I said for him, my voice was now quiet, almost like a child's.
"Dani. Get some rest.... Dani." He said, his words came out slow. He then turned and I quickly made my way out, hearing the doors close behind me.
Luck was on my side. But for how long?
