"Hey, Mom?" I began, clasping my hands tightly behind my back to keep from fidgeting nervously.

She glanced up, then continued her work. "Yes, honey?"

"Um, do you think you could get me my own... house?" I cringed, waiting for her to say no and start fussing.

She smiled. "Sure. I thought that you should get one sometime soon anyway."

I masked my expression of shock and spoke. "Really? And you'll help with the looking part?"

"Actually, I've already bought one for you. When I noticed how much you liked to be alone, I thought I'd get a house for you. There's no one around for about five miles so you'll have all the privacy needed." She grinned sheepishly. "I think I went a little overboard with the huge Jacuzzi and underground pool though."

I gave a small, happy shriek. "Oh my gosh. Mom, you didn't even go overboard, not even a little. Merci, merci, merci. I love you so much." I ran to her and gave her a embrace.

"Well, I'm glad you like it... even though you haven't seen it. It's bigger than this one, I can tell you that much," she said motioning around our huge home.

Grinning, I straightened. "So... when do I get to move in?"

She laughed. "When? You were moved in a week after I bought it."

"Yes!" I cheered. "It's okay if I move in officially, right? I promise I'll visit everyday and come whenever you need me." I rushed the words out of my mouth quickly, my mind already deciding on what I would change around once I settled in.

She rolled her eyes. "No, I don't mind, and you don't really have to come always." She kissed me on the forehead. "See you whenever, luv."

"Thank you so much, Mom!" I turned to go, but paused for a second. "Does my driver know the way there?"

"Of course. All of them do. When you get to your place, I have your own car waiting there for you so that you can go wherever on your own." She said.

"Oh thanks, Mom." I said relieved. "My boss never paid me enough to get one that I really liked."

My mom sighed. "I don't even know why you wanted to try to live like a regular girl anyway when we have everything you could ever want right here." She wrinkled her nose in distaste.

This time I sighed.  She didn't understand and this was the fifth time she had started this. "Mom, you'd never understand."  I turned and took the elevator to the first floor.

As I stepped in the back of the white limo, I told the driver to take me to my new place.

   He nodded. "Oui, mademoiselle."

                                                                         *~*~*~*~*~*

"Wow." I gazed over the gargantuan house. "I know I love my space and all but this is kind of crazy," I muttered. It may as well have been a mansion.

Sliding out of the limo, I thanked the driver and let him know he could return to the family house before turning to take everything in. The scenery, both natural and landscaped, was magnifying. Thorny stems sprouted beautiful roses in red and white with carnations blossoming here and there through the front yard. An almost life-like cherub angel opened her mouth to sputter water and surrounded herself with water from her stool on a desolate island. The water fountain sat in the middle of the divided lanes of my driveway.

Sighing happily, I entered the house and found a whole different world inside. If I hadn't already assured myself that I was woke, I'd have thought I was in a fairy tale.

I walked over to the map of the building to figure out what room I wanted to make my real bedroom. I loved heights so the room with the biggest balcony on the top floor would be perfect.

I went over to the elevator and took it up to the fourteenth floor. It would have seemed too much but I knew each floor only held one bedroom and the rest was only open space for my dance studio and art room and all. I walked down the hall until I found the room I was looking for. Smiling, I went out to the balcony and looked over the entire city. I could see my parents' palace from up here, but the trees in the surrounding area wouldn't let anyone see my home from their house.

Slowly the sky filled with beautiful pinks and purples. I glanced over just in time to watch as the orange sun slowly slid behind the trees. I felt content going back in to close the glass double door of the balcony, sliding the curtain closed.

Entering the bathroom, I glanced at the shower in wander; it was paradise. When I finished drying off, I pulled on my halter top silk nightgown, and it fell mid thigh. As I left the bathroom, I let the waves of my hair tumble down my back. I turned my radio on to a soft, French melody before sliding into my big, comfy canopy bed and slowly drifted asleep.....

.....Below her, on the first floor, a visitor welcomed himself into the house. He lifted his nose, sniffing the air for her scent. He opened his eyes...his glowing, emerald red eyes and smiled.
