I gave a small moan as I woke from my slumber and glanced up at the glowing clock on the wall. It blinked 8:21 am. A slow smile crossed my face. Time for exploration. The beauty sleep did my energy wonders.

As I rolled over a little on my back to stretch, I stiffened, confused. It felt as if someone was watching me. But no one could possibly glance up at my balcony and see me. And they certainly couldn't get past the locked doors. Something was... off.

Quickly, I jumped to my feet and flicked on every light switch around me, looking around as I did so. When every light was on, I sighed, relieved that there was no one here. I ran my hand through my hair and after feeling how it was beginning to tangle up, went into the bathroom to straighten it out.

As soon as I closed the door, a knocking sound came from the other side. Frowning, I hesitated, thinking I imagined it before continuing to brush my hair. I brushed my teeth, not hearing another sound. When I came out quietly though, my hand flew to my mouth to keep from screaming. My heartbeat stuttered off track before starting normally again, albeit at a higher tempo.

On the other side of the room with his back to me, a man stood looking at a picture of me from my nightstand.

"You take very good pictures, you know that?" he said, his voice deep with a rumble that sounded close to a purr. He turned to face my way and I couldn't stop the shriek that came out of my mouth this time. With sparkling red eyes, he chuckled.

I backed up until the wall stopped me from going back any further. "Who are you?" I demanded. Of course it came out as more of a whimper.

Giving a sinister smile, he revealed a pair of translucent white sharp fangs. Then, when I blinked, he was gone. The only evidence that he was here were the balcony curtains pulled back and blowing in the wind.

With a shudder, I slid down the wall to the floor, gasping for breath after realizing I had been holding it. At first, I was thinking about spending the rest of my life in this exact spot, but remembered him. I couldn't stay here. It wasn't safe anymore.

Standing, I got dressed and slid on my red trench coat before practically running out of the house to jump in my Mustang. I sped to the city and parked my car in a friend's garage, with her permission, before taking a stroll out on the sidewalks where I was surrounded by people.

I walked all the way to the end of the city where there was only a few deserted buildings and alleyways. I walked past every one of them until I had only two more. There wasn't anything that interesting about the second to last. But the last one was....different.

Every one of the alleys I had past were dark and deserted. This one emitted a faint red glow on the outside and got stronger as you looked deeper. At the very end, there was a small pool of lava where a man seemed to be standing in the middle of it.

"Are you okay?" I called out to him. Silence. He stood there, still. It wasn't until I looked down that I realized that I wasn't on the ground anymore, but floating a few inches in the air. I looked up and tried to move... but I couldn't. I was frozen all the way except my head.

And then suddenly, I could move, but not on my own. There was something pulling me to the man and it didn't stop until I floated before him as he stood in the lava. Now I could see him better. He wore a lava red tuxedo wit a white undershirt and his black glossy hair was gelled back. His piercing, ice blue eyes like a back hole, sucking me into its mysterious depths.

We stared at each other for a moment, sizing each other up until he spoke.

"It's good to have finally met you, Roza," he said, using my name in Russian, his voice deep and seductive. "Won't you come down?" With that said, I began to descend from the air, landing in front of him and the lava. He took my hand and kissed it. His skin and lips as chilly as a winter's night.

"Who are you?" I managed to get out in a choked whisper.

"The name is Satan, or the Chief Evil Spirit, whichever you prefer" he said. "I am here to grant you one wish, but of course that's a favor that you will have to return." He smoothed his hand over his suite coat and studied me, meeting my gaze with a mischievous smile playing on his lips. "Isn't there anything you desire?"

I actually thought about this. I mean, yeah this is a total hot stranger standing in a pool of lava with the coldest eyes you'd ever see that's granting me a wish, but I was still hung over on what my old boss did and wanted revenge. Desperately. And I didn't really care what his side of the deal was. And what if this was fake and he was practically harmless anyways, I convinced myself.

"You know what, I can think of one right now." I smiled slyly before going on and telling him about how I had a boss that liked to torture me (which in my eyes wasn't far from the truth), and that I wanted him to pay him back.

The man grinned. "Does it matter what I do to him?" he asked, with a evil twinkle in his eyes.

First off, I should have taken the way the man looked as another warning. But I didn't. I just ignored it because the fact that I finally found a way to get back at my boss for the way he treated me. If this was actually real.

"Actually, he's all yours," I told him with a smile.

"Alright, I'll take care of it, but don't forget that you have to deal with my side of the deal," he warned.

"I won't," I replied. He watched me closely as I suddenly started floating back down to the ground in front of the lava.

"You may go," he said.

Hesitantly, I turned around to go get my car and go home, but all my senses came back and I remembered I didn't know what he wanted me to do. I refaced him. "But what do you want me to do?" I asked.

He smiled, sinfully. "You will know when the time comes," he said in a deep seductive voice again. Then, slowly, before my eyes, he began to sink into the lava. When he disappeared, the pool of lava slowly began to disperse as well. I blinked.

I took a deep breath after realizing that I had been holding it in. Quickly, I turned and left the aisle. After dropping by my friend's house to get my car, I left to go home.

Waiting patiently for her return, he explored the house himself, settling in the art room with the knowledge that she would not visit it that night. With a gleaming red stained smile, he closed his eyes as he settled in on the sofa tracking her as she made her home to him.
