People were pouring out of the large marble house, and I listened closely to the music playing. Everyone had on black tie attire, and my long, blonde curls fell over one shoulder in a dramatic style. I couldn't have been more proud of how well it all turned out. I styled my whole outfit, wig included, for the event tonight.
I heard the crackle of the microphone in my ear before Dylan's voice softly echoed. "Addie, you're in. I need you to go find Jared. He's going to have the Ravage symbol tattooed on his left hand."
I ignored Dylan and went straight for a waiter carrying a tray of champagne. I grabbed a glass and brought it to my lips when I sensed the presence of someone behind me. "Hmm, I don't think I've ever seen you before."
I turned around and was met with the dark eyes of Jared Micah. He was 6'2 with styled brown hair and a sharp jaw line. Both arms were covered in tattoos, but were hidden behind a tux jacket. The smirk he wore made me feel sick to my stomach, but my smile never faltered.
"That's because I just moved here. I'm Katherine." I held my hand out with the fakest smile I could muster up. He took a hold of my hand and placed a small kiss on the top. "I'm Jared."
Dylan whispered "Try to get him to trust you, Ads. He may lead you to their leader Hunter."
"So, what are all these people here for?" I played dumb, looking around in awe of the people. Jared chuckled under his breath before taking a sip of his beer.
"Everyone here is celebrating the death of a leader of a gang a long ways away. Our leader wanted everyone to come together and...rejoice over his death."
"Gang leader? Which gang?" I hated playing dumb when really I was tempted to pull the pistol out of my stockings underneath the floor length emerald green ball gown and beat him upside the head with it. I knew who had died. Hell, I had mourned his death myself for four hours before Dylan peeled me off the bathroom floor. The United States and most of Europe were practically controlled by two rival gangs. Some mysteriously deadly leader who is reportedly named Hunter has ruled over Ravage in Western Europe for enough years to strike fear in everyone's heart without being seen.
The gang that had taken over control of the U.S. Trepidation had been controlled by triplets: Garret, Nathan, and Dylan. Garret had been shot during a "confrontation" with Ravage, and Nathan, Dylan and I had been left to pick up the pieces. Now I was in charge of handling some business.
"You ask a lot of questions, Katherine."
"I'm sorry, I don't mean to pry but I'm still trying to adjust to the new city. I'm afraid I don't really know anyone and I was hoping to know who people are."
"If I told you that I was second in command to the Leader, would you run?" I wouldn't have flinched, but I knew the response he wanted. My eyes got wide, and I took a few steps back. He seemed pleased with my reaction, which only made my confidence grow.
"I-I had no idea. I'm so-sorry; you must think I'm a complete fool for not recognizing you. I'll leave you alone." I made the move as if I would walk away, but I felt his grip wrap around my arm to pull me back.
"Don't worry about it, unless of course, you're too scared." His smirk was even more sickening.
"I may be naïve, but I'm smart enough to know when to be frightened." I stared down at shoes, trying so hard not to roll my eyes. How gullible could this guy be?
"Aww, sweetie, you have nothing to be scared about. Not yet, anyways. How new are you here?"
Nathan cut me off before I could speak. "Addie, don't tell him much. Keep it vague."
"I moved only a couple weeks ago." I tried to keep my smile small and my eyes constantly looking around him. I just needed him to trust me. "So, Jared, wait a-am I allowed to call you that?"
He laughed again and crossed his arms over his toned chest. He was showing off his biceps to both intimidate and arouse me, but it only made my skin crawl. "Oh, you can call me whatever you want."
"I-I'm afraid I should probably try and introduce myself to some more people while I have the chance." I began to wave goodbye and 'walk away', but he gripped my arm again, tugging me into his chest. I looked up into his eyes, trying to act nervous.
"Why don't you come with me? I'm sure I can...introduce you to some...powerful people, Katherine."
"I can't see why anyone would be interested in meeting me. Wouldn't all of your friends have much better things to do?" I was getting praise from Nathan and Dylan, but my focus was solely on Jared.
"I think my friends would be very interested in meeting you." I wanted to know what he meant. He seemed to have a different agenda, but I was too intrigued to care.
I nodded my head nervously as I spun the vintage ring on my right hand. He slid his hand from around my arm to my wrist and led me through a series of people. He stopped in front of two large French doors made of a dark wood. The doors looked to be there for both style and silence. After placing a series of knocks against the doors, he threw them both open and walked in.
His shoulders were tense but his head was up either way. He wasn't stressed, but he wanted to appear to be exploding confidence. I hesitantly followed, because for the first time all night, I was actually fearful of what I would find behind the doors.
"Jared, where the bloody hell have you been all night?" Jared rolled his eyes, but stepped to the side, revealing me to the men inside the room. Three black leather couches sat in front of a desk with extremely high-tech computers. Three very attractive men sat around on the couches with drugs on the coffee table and bottles of liquor strewn all over. The men couldn't have been older than 26, and they all were covered in tattoos and piercings, making them look extremely intimidating.
"I made a...friend...along the way. I thought you may want to meet her." He nodded his head to the most attractive one in the room. His hair was a dark brown and it fell in loose waves. His eyes were a deep green, and he had a black lip ring that he held in between his teeth.
"What makes you so sure she'll be a good fit?" I looked at Jared, complete confusion showing all over my face.
"Umm, I'm sorry; I'm not too sure what you're talking about." One of the boys on the side, who had black hair and dark near-black eyes, leaned back comfortably on the couch and looked me up and down.
"What's your name, sweetheart?" His accent was thick, but nowhere near as thick as the green eyed one. I took half a step back and began to spin the ring again.
"Katherine. Katherine Louis." He smirked and returned his gaze back to the beer bottle held firmly in his left hand.
"What do you know about Ravage?" The third guy, one with white dyed hair and bright blue eyes with a million piercings in both eyebrows, leaned forward so his elbows were resting on his knees.
"Not much, if I'm honest. My family and I remained pretty sheltered from the gang activity until moving here. I'm aware of the power you have over the rest of the world."
"Good," said the black haired one. "I think you will do very nicely."
"F-for what?" Green eyes stood from his seat and made long strides until he was extremely close.
"To live with me."
