Chapter 4:

I finished my work as quickly as possible before racing up the stairs to my room to straighten up. I made sure my hair looked good, and reapplied my lip gloss. I added a touch of mascara to make my eyes appear bigger, and slipped a pair of navy Toms on.

By the time I was back downstairs, Hunter was standing glaring at me with his phone in his hand. "Could you take any longer?"

"I'm sorry." He rolled his eyes and made his way to the 20 car garage full of every style of car over 100 grand.

"Pick." He gestured to the wall of car keys and my heart fluttered. I had always had a thing for cars, so I looked down the row until I found a set of keys for a black Maserati Granturismo Convertible.

"This is my dream car!" I threw him the keys which he caught in one hand like he was the shit, and I jumped into the passenger side. He laughed and shook his head at my enthusiasm, but I couldn't care less.

We drove for ten minutes in silence before pulling into a long driveway that led to another large house. This was nowhere near as nice as Hunter's but it was a lot bigger than where I used to live before moving in with Garret.

Hunter opened the door for me, and I was shocked. What the hell was he doing? His kindness made me uncomfortable. Without knocking he threw open the door and strolled right on in. I still hadn't quite learned what made gang leaders feel so damn entitled to everything, but every last one of them did.

By the time I had walked in, Hunter was already shaking hands with Jared. He walked over to me with a small smile. "Aww Katherine, I was hoping to see you again. How is Kayden treating you?"

       Kayden? "Who?"

The same guy with the black hair stood up and patted Hunter's back laughing. "You didn't tell the girl your name? God dammit Kayden!"

My head was whipping back and forth between the scary dude with black hair and Hunter. He finally looked at me and shrugged his shoulders. "Hunter's my last name."

What the actual fuck? Why didn't Garret know this? The triplets only ever called him Hunter; they should have known what his real name was. But if they knew, why wouldn't they tell me?

"Katherine?" I realized I had completely zoned out, so I looked up at Kayden/Hunter. "What I'm sorry, I seemed to have spaced out."

"I said this is Zeke." The guy with black hair stepped up to tower over me with a douche smirk. I bit down hard on the inside of my cheek and tried really hard not to roll my eyes.

"And I'm Wyatt." The last one who stood up had the softest look with his bright blue eyes, and he shook my hand like a respectable man. I gave him a small smile which he gladly returned.

"Oh, good," Jared's attention went to a girl who had walked in. "Can you take Katherine into the kitchen and make tea? The boys and I need to talk."

I turned to get a better look at the girl Jared was talking to, but the minute I did, my heart stopped. She hadn't recognized me yet, as she nodded to Jared and motioned for me to follow her down a hallway into the kitchen.

"Madison? What are you doing here?" Madison's father was in the trusted circle of Trepidation with my father back when we were younger. She and I had been really close before she was sent off to live with her husband in Southern Florida about three years ago.

"Addie? Oh my god!" She pulled me into a bone crushing hug, but I couldn't believe I had found her! Her hair was much lighter since the last time I saw her, and she seemed to have gained a good amount of weight. Her father kept her scary thin due to a marriage agreement with another highly respected member Trevor he was worried would fall through if she didn't look "her best".

"Madison, why are you here? How did you get here? Where is Trevor?"

"Oh Addie, I don't even know where to begin! So much has happened in such a short amount of time. Jared and some of the members of Ravage were trying to strike a business deal with Trevor since they couldn't find the triplets. I overheard Jared talking about the family of some poor girl Trevor had murdered trying to track him down. I was disgusted with what I was hearing about him, so I fled. I jumped on a plane to London, and decided to start over here, but I actually ended up at the Ravage club and ran into Jared. He had mentioned needing someone to help him out, and so I've been living here sense. I of course like him as much more than a maid, but I don't think he feels the same way yet."

She was glowing with happiness, and I wished we could have enjoyed the happiness a little longer. "Madison, what does he know?"

"Nothing. He thinks my name is Sarah Baker, and that I moved here to expand my studies in the U.K. What are you doing here?"

"Dylan and Nathan wanted me to come to investigate a few things here."

"Oh, is Garret here too?" What? Had she not heard about Garret? She was smiling at me, and it almost broke my heart to have to tell her the truth.

"Mads, Garret was shot and killed during an invasion that the Ravage leaders had planned against the triplets. He's been dead for less than a week."

Madison's arms wrapped me up tightly in a hug. If I could have, I would have sobbed silently in her shoulder while she told me it was all going to be okay, but we had Ravage leaders outside the kitchen that would shoot and kill me the second they found out. I pulled out of Madison's grasp.

"I actually am living with Kayden as his secretary. Mads, if they ask you any questions, promise me you'll tell them that you just met me. We became fast friends and my name is Katherine. Katherine Louis."

She nodded her head and smiled before handing me a cup of peppermint tea. "It's still your favorite, right?"

       "Of course!"

"How have you been taking everything now that Garret's gone? That can't be easy on you, Ads. You really cared for him."

"I cared for him, of course, but I never loved him. Not like I should have." My biggest regret was marrying him and taking away his chance of really falling in love with someone before he died.

"I'm not even really sure what I plan on doing here, I just couldn't be in that house, and this seemed like the most practical plan. Well, before I moved in with the enemy, of course."

"Haha, yeah, who would have thought either of us would have ended up here?"

I shook my head and smiled at her, but Jared entered and interrupted. "Sarah, Katherine, you guys are free to join us. We just wrapped everything up."

We followed behind Jared back into the living room where Wyatt, Zeke, and Kayden were sitting comfortably around. I sat next to Kayden, leaning back into the couch, my attention on spinning my ring around my finger. 'Sarah' looked over at me and winked before saying, "Katherine, I just love that ring."

I gave her a small smile as I nodded my head. I went with her and Garret to pick it out one night. We had been married for a little less than a year, but it was my birthday and Garret insisted on getting me a proper ring. I fell in love with a dark silver vintage ring with a beautiful pattern around a gorgeous green stone in the center. I never wore it on the left hand because that was too sappy, but it had been such a romantic gesture for him. It brought tears to my eyes just thinking about it, but I shook the thoughts away and focused on what Wyatt was saying.

Out of the corner of my eye, I saw Kayden staring at me intently, so I turned my face towards him and gave him a shy smile before turning my attention back to the conversation going around. Hopefully he hadn't seen the wetness in my eyes, or the emotions behind them. I couldn't afford for this plan to be ruined so soon.
