(The picture is of Kayden, and it's times like this I wish attractive boys went to my school)

I woke up early the next morning to get Kayden's breakfast ready after I worked out. Kayden had an entire gym in his house that I would use every morning while he slept.

After an intense boxing workout, I showered quickly and made Kayden coffee and an omelet. He slowly made his way downstairs in only a pair of grey sweatpants that were worn low on his hips, revealing the sexy V he had.

I handed him his coffee when my phone in my bedroom was ringing. Who the hell would be calling me? I excused myself and wandered into my bedroom.

"Hello?" I answered the phone and was met with a very pissed off Nathan.

"Adelaide, it has been a month and you've called like three times! What the hell has been going on?"

"I really can't talk right now, but just know that things are moving along nicely. I have to go, but I'll try and call you soon." I waited until Nathan sighed before hanging up on him. I felt too guilty to talk to him right now. Kayden almost kissed me last night, and I couldn't let Nathan know that there was even a possibility that I tolerated Kayden. If Nate knew I found Kayden attractive, he would tell me that I was a lowlife bitch for doing that to his brother, and he would be right. I splashed some cold water onto my face before going back into the kitchen to find Kayden laying out page after page on his living room table.

"We're going to need more space than the office today. This file I got last night is going to take a lot of time to go through."

"What is it?" The pages were covered with reports, pictures, and charts. There were easily over 100 pages laid out over couches, the table, and the floor.

"Information on Trepidation." My heart sunk to the pit of my stomach.

"O-oh, anything in particular we're supposed to be looking for?"

He very simply tore apart my heart with two words. "A weakness."

I was sitting on the floor with my back pressed up against the fireplace while Kayden sat in his large black leather chair, both of us going through paper after paper. I was shocked by the things I was reading. Somehow Kayden had gotten ahold of financial records that hadn't been put under lock and key. Whoever obtained the file didn't know how to override my security system considering the most important files were missing.

"Kayden, what do you plan on doing with Trepidation, exactly?" My curiosity was going to get the best of me, but I had to know. If I heard him say that he was just as ruthless and cruel as I had thought in the beginning, then maybe I wasn't betraying Garret anymore.

"Trepidation has been playing dirty to get what they want, and we can't afford them to continue. They have been invading for four years; killing off civilians who have nothing to do with this whole control for land and power thing. If they invade again, I'm going to need to find their weakness to stop them from killing more of my people. Sadly, all these papers seem to say the same shit I've known for months!"

Kayden tossed a small stack of papers that landed near me. I scooped up the reports and began to read. They were horrible. It was all pictures that were emailed to Kayden by Trepidation of the torture of Ravage civilians. Each picture was more graphic than the next, and I had to stand up slowly to try and not puke.

This couldn't be true. Dylan, Garret, and Nathan would never do this. They would never kidnap innocent people and torture them just to get land. They couldn't have! I knew almost everything about Trepidation, but it seems they had gotten this past me. "H-how do you know this is true?"

Kayden sat up and quirked his eyebrow. "What's true? The pictures? Trust me; they've been doing this stuff for years. You shouldn't look at them, though Katherine."

"W-wh-who would be doing this?" Please don't say it. Please don't say it.

"There are a set of triplets that lead Trepidation and each one is equally as horrid as the last. That party we met was thrown after one of the brothers was killed after he broke into Zeke's house and raped, shot, and killed his girlfriend."

Have you ever felt the pieces of your world start to slowly crumble all around you? Like you've been hit so hard that you can't breathe right, and you're left to question everything? It was as if my whole world turned in a 180.

"Raped and killed? D-did this happen...often?" Kayden was looking at me intensely, but my focus was on my ring that I spun aimlessly around my finger.

"Katherine, this stuff happens daily. Gang members don't care too much about anything, and we see this stuff a lot."

"No, I know, I mean with Trepidation."

"The River boys have been ignorant little shits since they took over. They have been trying to take land, start wars; they broke into my old house six years ago and murdered my sister."

"You had a sister?" He never talked about his family with me before, and this was the first time I had heard about any of it.

"Yes, I did, but I'd rather not get into it so stop being nosy." He barked as he stood up and left towards the kitchen. I debated following him, but I was too shocked to move. I lived with those boys for nine years, yet never did any of these trips go through me.

I had sat in almost every business meeting, and never knew about them going on Ravage soil. I knew a lot about Ravage through what Garret and the other boys told me, but never this.

I was kept away even from rumors about Trepidation, but I assumed because they were about me; not because they were things the boys were trying to hide from me.

I hadn't realized how long I had been staring at the same three pages in my lap while spinning my ring, until Kayden came back in with two large red mugs. He handed one to me, but my hands were shaking hard. I tried to calm myself down, but all I felt was blinding rage for all the lies.

"Kat, what's wrong? I knew I should have never given you those pages. You shouldn't keep looking at them. They're too much for you." He tried to rip the pages from my lap, but I pulled my hand away so he couldn't get them. I couldn't let go of them, not until I knew more.

"Kayden, do all gang leaders do this?" He winced as he saw the horror in my eyes waiting for him to answer.

"No, all of my men know that if they ever touch a woman inappropriately they will be killed. I don't allow that here. But there are a lot of people, specifically in Trepidation, that don't have those values. Be grateful you ended up with me and not the two brothers."

I absent mindedly nodded my head as I handed him the papers. "It's getting pretty late. I'm going to head up to bed."

I left Kayden in the living room with all of the documents as I scurried up the steps. I made my way onto the balcony and stared up at the sky. The trees seemed to stretch for miles and the black sky had white stars scattered across. I felt the warm tears falling down my cheek, but I refused to believe it all.

They wouldn't do that to me, I refused to accept it. That night sleep seemed to escape me, as I was awoken constantly with nightmares.
