I turned over on my side and looked at the bright clock next to my bed. It was 5:27am and the whole house was freezing. I climbed out of bed and slipped on a pair of leggings, a large baggy maroon sweater that fell off one shoulder, and a pair of black fuzzy slippers I begged Kayden to buy for me.

I made my way down to the kitchen to find all of the windows wide open. "What the hell?" I murmured to myself.

I walked into the living room, and found Kayden laid out on the couch. His smooth dark hair had fallen over his closed eyes, and his lips were slightly parted. He looked peaceful, but the wind whipping through the open windows was sending chills down my spine. I walked around the living room and tried to gently close every window, but the last window in the kitchen wouldn't budge.

Dammit! I tried to push the window down hard, but I didn't have enough upper body strength to shove the window down. I tugged and tugged until I felt a warm breath brush over the back of my neck, and strong arms wrapped around from behind and shoved the window closed. Kayden got the window closed, but kept his hands pressed against the window.

I turned slowly, our faces only inches apart. His eyes were brighter than usual, and his low, morning voice was extremely sexy. "How'd you sleep?"

"Fine, yourself?" His eyes flickered from mine down to my lips, making my heart beat harder against my chest. He pressed his hips against mine, pushing me up against the window. His lips hovered over my cheek. "I'm craving...pancakes." He pulled away with that damn smirk while running his fingers through his hair.

"Chocolate chips, peanut butter chips, or blueberries?" I walked into the kitchen with Kayden walking close on my heels. I grabbed everything I needed to make his breakfast, but he didn't seem to give space.

"Hmm," he tapped his finger against his chin as if deep in thought. "I change my mind. Waffles sound so much more...appetizing." I took a deep breath but switched out the ingredients I needed to. I knew he was being an ass because he could be, but I couldn't say 'stop being a selfish prick and cook yourself some goddamn food' like I so desperately wanted.

"I can bring it to you in your office if you would like." He shook his head, his jaw line sharp and distracting. "No, no I'd much rather eat down here. I like the view much more."

I bit down on the corner of my lip to prevent myself from kissing him then and there. He was a flirt, and the problem with that was that he would have gotten along very well with the real Adelaide. Garret yelled at me many times for being too flirty with his brothers, but it was only because he was a stiff with anger issues.

I made sure the waffles were perfect before placing them on a large white plate. I set the plate in front of him, but instead of digging in like normal, he just sat and stared.

"Am I allowed to ask why you're in such an...odd....mood today?"

"Odd?" He tilted his head, his tongue sweeping across his bottom lip. "I'm feeling wonderful, especially because the boys are coming over with a plan."

"Do you need me to sit in on the meeting to take notes, or would you prefer me to entertain Sarah?" I poured a cup of tea as I made my way around the counter so I was sitting close to Kayden. His knee brushed up against mine as he turned so he was facing me, bringing his face a bit closer.

"I think you can handle sitting on the meeting as long as you don't speak. We need to talk about closing a peace treaty with Opulence that should go through sooner than expected."
