"Verily, the hearts of the children of Adam, all of them, are between the two fingers of the Most Merciful as one heart; He directs them wherever he wills."

(Sahih Muslim 2654)

Chapter 24:

Dream Destination

Bilal tossed and turned on the bed for what seemed like the hundredth time, and with a huff, he grabbed his phone from beside him and checked the time.

10:52

Turning, with his back flat on the mattress, he absent mindedly stared at the ceiling, beating himself for doing this to Dina. He recalled his last message to her and scowled. He tried playing it of as nothing big, but come to think of it, it obviously conveyed his frustration.

He knew that he shouldn't be doing this, it was so not like himself to get annoyed at someone who had no fault of theirs. Tabrez was a douche, the most annoying creature on earth, the biggest controversy producer. When he had spoken to him before their wedding, Bilal had figured out that Tabrez would try his best to get Dina. And now, since that wasn't possible, for Dina was married to Bilal, he was obviously creating problems.

He knew it, he knew it all, but that second, instead of coming home and seeing his pretty wife, after a long day at work hearing her soothing voice was replaced by the scene of Tabrez with Dina in her room, it ticked him off.

It ticked him off so badly that he stopped talking to Dina, worse still, he was completely shutting her out.

And now, he felt terrible for doing this. Granted, Dina was too precious to him, he cared for her so much that he didn't want people like Tabrez even within a ten mile radius of her, but it still didn't mean he could do this. The right way would have been to talk to her but at that time, his anger took the better off him, and now he obviously regretted it.

And worst of all, it was the first night that Dina wasn't with him. When he had seen her text, he all but wanted to ask her to, very politely, cancel the sleepover. But, his ego got the better of him and so, he asked her to have fun.

If she felt half as much as what he was feeling, having fun would be the last thing on her mind.

Taking the phone yet again, he read through her messages, hoping that it would help him miss her less. But, little did he know, if anything, reading their previous texts made him want to drive to Asif's house and get his wife back, hug her and just apologise for behaving senseless.

And since he couldn't do that, he longingly stared at his phone's wallpaper, the one which the couple had clicked at the beach. It had Dina sticking her tongue out at the camera while Bilal stood behind her, a goofy grin on his face while his arms were wrapped around Dina's waist. He wasn't crazy for pictures, but he still had to admit this was extremely adorable.

He ran his thumb on the screen over Dina's features and her black orbs smiling at him was all he remembered when sleep finally overtook him.

Contrary to Bilal's thoughts, unlocking the door, Dina carefully walked inside her house. The entire flat was flooded in darkness except for the glow that came from the lamp on the corner stand. Dropping her bag on the couch, she made her way to the bedroom.

She hadn't told Bilal that she wasn't having a sleepover anymore, and she was glad when Simran had offered to drop her home on the way. Now, as she unpinned her hijab and stared at Bilal's sleeping form, the innocence of his expression did not help to calm her herculean thoughts.
