I Will Not Fear - Gally fanfic

The Decision

After lunch I headed over to meet Winston and I could smell the animals before I got there. 

"Hey Kit, I'm Winston. Excited to get started?" He asked.

"Uhhh sure." I was really not excited. 

"Cool well you can watch me slice first then I will send you over to feed the animals." I followed him into the building and I almost saw my grilled cheese sandwich again. We walked over to a table and he got right at it. He kept slicing away and I kept getting more uncomfortable. 

"Alright not so bad? So Runners are almost back so the day is almost over. Just take this bucket of food over to the pen while I clean up." I took the bucket which was much heavier than I was expecting. I went to the pigs first. I took a scoop of the food and placed it in their pen. Next I walked over to the sheep. I opened the gate and walked in. After I placed the bucket down I turned around and saw one of the sheep taking off throughout the field. Shoot!

After I closed the gate I took off at full speed. I was sprinted through the field. I could feel the wind tearing thorough my hair and could hear the constant thump of my feet, but I had ever felt so good. The sheep was heading toward of the maze walls so I took a sharp right and quickened my speed. Finally I was close enough so I dove at the little guy and just barley grabbed his heel. But I got him!

"Dang girl you can run!" I looked up to see Minho and Thomas looking down at me just outside the walls. "I just might take you out to be a runner!"

"Seriously?! No way, that would be awesome!" I was in shock I always wanted to know what was behind the walls. 

"I don't think so." Gally. 

"I agree." Newt.

"Guys come on! I can't be stuck inside these walls everyday without knowing what's on the other side." By now a group of people have formed around us. Alby came through the crowd and gave me a weird look. I realized I was sitting on a sheep but this was serious!

"What's the problem here boys?" Alby asked in a calm tone.

"Minho is trying to get Kit to be a runner!" Gally and Newt said at the same time. Of course my brother and Gally would fight against this. 

"Listen Alby this girl can run. I think she would be a great addition to our team." Minho argued.

"So why can't she be a runner?" Alby's gaze was pointed at Gally and Newt this time. 

"Well its dangerous!"

"Yeah! What if something happened to her?! Besides I think she should be a builder! She's brilliant she can make a structure with less wood and just as sturdy! She's a genius!" Gally stopped abruptly realizing he had been rambling. 

"Well we know how Gally feels" Thomas joked.

"I agree that it is very dangerous and we have been running out of lumber lately, but our running team is getting sparse." Alby was drawing out his sentence as long as he could. All the while building my anticipation.

"She will be a builder." 

"But-" Minho and I said at the same time. Gally and Newt high-fived each other. I rolled my eyes.

"However! If a runner is sick or cannot run for the day for some reason, Kit will fill in."

There was a long silence. All of us were processing his offer. It was clear that it would be hard to negotiate. I looked from Minho to Newt and lastly Gally. 

"Deal."
